At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. As such, our new services in Glenrothes support young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the local community.

What we are looking for....

As a Young People’s Worker, you will play a fundamental role in our young people’s lives to ensure that they get the best possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plan. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical and emotional care; supporting our young people in their daily living and within the local community.

If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for a Young People’s Worker to work full time (37.5 hours per week).

These hours will be worked as part of a 24/7 residential rota, which will include mornings, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays. You will also be expected to do sleepovers.

Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ3 Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

The Aberlour Sycamore Services are based in Fife and are widely recognised in Scotland for providing a range of quality therapeutic residential, education and fostering experiences for some of the most vulnerable young people in the country. The Service is a national resource and as such receives referrals from throughout Scotland.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit 2 Residential Workers to join our Sycamore Services team in our home in Kirkcaldy. You should be enthusiastic, warm, playful, accepting, curious and empathetic and be able to bring these qualities to your work with children and young people. Our approach is to work in a therapeutic way to support the vulnerable children and young people who live in our residential houses.

Our night worker will play a crucial role, providing security to the young people if any of them are unable to sleep or become unsettled during the night. This can be particularly difficult for the young people and your ability to adopt a calm and comforting approach is a key skill to help them through these difficult experiences.

You must be comfortable working in a culture based on respect, integrity, innovation and the ability to challenge. You should be able to work in a nurturing way, enabling the children and young people to feel safe and loved. We are looking for individuals who will help us to achieve our vision, which is to:

Vacancies have arisen for two Children’s Wellbeing & Development Workers at the Cottage Family Centre.

You will have a range of experience working with children and knowledge of issues affecting families with young children.

You will have an ability to work creatively with play resources in order to provide young children with high quality nurturing experiences. You are also required to demonstrate an ability to work effectively and flexibly within a team.

You will be expected to have experience in a similar role and an HNC in Early Years or HNC in Childcare and Education or SNNEB and/or SVQ 3 Social Services Children and Young People

The post will be subject to PVG, References and SSSC Registration.

You will be expected to work a minimum of 16 hours per week but also have flexibility to work hours in addition to this where required.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for people to join our relief pool who are passionate about supporting children and young people. The children and young people who live in our houses have experienced significant trauma in their young lives and our aim is to create loving, nurturing family homes where they feel safe and cared for.

Our relief workers play a crucial role in supporting our teams. This work is offered on a casual, hourly paid basis to provide cover during staff absence and/or particularly busy periods. Work will be offered in one of our four residential houses in Fife – three of these are in Kirkcaldy and one in Dunfermline.

Members of our relief pool have a varied range of backgrounds and often work in different areas of the workforce. Although experience in child-care is ideal, we would also like to hear from people who may have skills from their work experience in different sectors which would be transferrable and provide a good basis from which to learn and develop their skills, utilising the range of training we provide.

The last two years have been challenging for all of us and many of us are re-evaluating what we want out of life, including our working lives. Relief work enables you to test out your affinity and ability for working in residential child-care and, if you want to take things a step further, there are opportunities to move into a substantive role in the future.
