We are looking for a Community Engagement Officer to deliver capacity-building development support services to all service users and encourage and empower inclusivity within Mental Health support services specifically for BAME, LGBTQ+ and other minority community groups.

The Community Engagement Officer will be a passionate individual who wants create communities that inclusively support the mental health needs of each Child and Young Person no matter their race, culture, background. The role will initially start off with the purpose of capacity build and engage with individuals to identify the needs and barriers faced by minority groups to better support such ones and make services more accessible.

How will you make a difference:

• Maintain up to date knowledge of best practice in voluntary and community development and engagement sector activity.
• Maintain statistics in respect of the development support provided and provide reports as and when requested.
• Work actively to achieve the targets in The Miracle Foundation SCIO Business Plan
• Engage in the monitoring and evaluation procedures laid down by the Miracle Foundation SCIO
• Comply with the policies and procedures set by the Miracle Foundation SCIO.
• Provide organisation and project development and business planning.
• Work within legal structures and charity status
• Comply with all applicable regulations.
• Undertake Community engagement, surveys, and action plans (geographical communities and communities of interest).
• Develop networks and arranging activities/events for networking, socialising, and support within minority community groups.
• Disseminate information as appropriate.
• Attend a range of partnership meetings in respect to the local areas and communities.

We are looking for an individual who has:

• Relevant educational qualifications and/or significant experience particular in Community Development and Engagement or something similar.
• An understanding of the Third Sector and the environment in which it operates (including charity regulations and good governance).
• Ability to engage with volunteers and staff in the Third Sector and Public Sector.
• Ability to produce written reports.
• Ability and track record of establishing and maintaining effective, informal networking and multi-agency working.
• Ability to organise and manage events and activities within networking groups and the community for service users.
• IT literate with good knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications and online databases.
• Knowledge and experience of planning, target setting, monitoring and evaluation.
• Able to work independently and pro-actively with a minimum level of supervision.
• Good time management
• A driving licence and access to a car.

The Community & Fundraising Officer will be a passionate individual who wants to raise funds and awareness for our amazing work in Bereavement and Trauma support. The organisation has begun building a portfolio of income streams that currently include trusts and grants, fundraising events and activities and individual giving. The Community & Fundraising Officer will work on creating a more diverse portfolio of income streams by building upon existing streams and creating new ones such as community giving, legacies, company sponsorships and major gifts.

How will you make a difference:

• I develop and deliver compelling fundraising engagement plans for event participants to drive fundraising and increase community engagement with the charity.
• I am the first point of contact for individuals contacting The Miracle Foundation regarding fundraising and volunteering enquiries.
• I will assist in the writing and submission of small to medium funding applications.
• I am responsible for organising and ensuring fundraisers and volunteers who have agreed to support the charity and assisted in their efforts and receive the utmost support and care during their efforts.
• I manage and support the creation, running and engagement of small to major fundraising events organised internally or externally with the organisation.
• I liaise with staff and volunteers to develop teams and responsibilities for events and activities.
• Working with media and marketing colleagues or contracted staff, I create compelling fundraising engagement messages, including stories about our team, people being supported by the Miracle Foundation and projects that our volunteers and supporters are funding.

Our MH&WB Practitioners play a central role in the planning and provision of support that is embedded with a trauma informed, and recovery focused therapeutic approach. You will work alongside people to reduce isolation, build resilience and develop community engagement.

Peer work roles have been developed specifically for people who have lived experience around mental health and wellbeing. Through appropriate and intentional sharing of their own experience, peer workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, peer workers will promote self-management and opportunities for improved health and wellbeing.

This is a new and exciting opportunity to be part of a partnership approach, working alongside Bipolar Edinburgh offering support specifically to people with a diagnosis of Bipolar. In this role, you will work collaboratively with both organisations at various locations, across Edinburgh and the Lothians, providing 1 to 1 support for those affected by Bipolar. Support is to be provided in an appropriate environment where supported people can expect to be treated with respect, be given the time and space to discuss issues at their own pace, to explore skill development and tools to support them to self-manage.

As practitioner you will support through three stages:

• At times of distress/ when seeking help to improve their mental wellbeing
• Ongoing support for approximately 6 to 12 individual sessions
• Providing a clear and structured ending to support

You will also support Bipolar Edinburgh’s facilitators to deliver group work periodically, and be required to develop, build and maintain professional links in order to deliver outcome focussed support.

Our charity has been involved in the prevention of suicide and promotion of better mental health for just over three years. Prior to formally being incorporated as a SCIO, a smaller association ran for several years dealing primarily with suicide prevention. Our charity is a facilitator-led peer to peer support group trying to get people to talk about suicide in the hope that talking about the subject can help with feelings of isolation and hopelessness and ultimately prevent suicides from taking place. Initially our charity ran a group for men as there were a number of suicides in the town, and it was felt this was where there was most need for more openness on the subject. Subsequently a women’s group was also formed, and we now have several other groups running weekly.

More recently we have been running events and classes to promote better mental wellbeing in an effort to promote mental health and reduce suicidal thoughts. We also provide training in mental health first aid to local groups and individuals to give others the skills needed to help those suffering with poor mental health.

The Board is seeking to recruit new Trustees to the Board. We are particularly interested to hear from those with relevant experience with mental health and suicide prevention or third sector working. Trustees with expertise and experience in different aspects of our work, including health and social care, human resources, and finance, as well as people with experience of using mental health services play a key part in leading our charity forward.

Our board tries to meet monthly, but this can occasionally be less. Meetings usually last around 2 hours and are held at our premises. Meetings can also be attended virtually as happened during the pandemic.

Responsibility

Trustees are responsible to the Board. Each Trustee must meet the Charitable Trustee Legal Duty (OSCR).

Training

Trustees will be offered induction and access to other training or learning relevant to the role. Suicide prevention training includes, safeTALK, ASIST and Scottish mental health first aid.
