Harmeny Education Trust is a sector-leading children’s charity providing therapeutic care and education for children with complex additional support needs. We work with children of primary up to early secondary stage, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis.

Harmeny is situated in a beautiful 35-acre woodland estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats and children’s play areas. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills; we are easily accessible by bus and there is ample parking.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Education Support Worker to join our dedicated Education Team to provide individual learning support for one of our pupils as well as promote engagement within the classroom and other learning environments.

The position is offered on a fixed-term basis, for approximately 12 months (August 2022 – July 2023). The post-holder will be required to work 30.5 hours per week during term time only.

Candidates should have a willingness and ability to work with children who have additional support needs. We are particularly keen to employ a member of staff who has knowledge and awareness of how to support children with Autism, enjoys the outdoors, is flexible and adaptable to the needs of the child and their environment and most of all someone who is relaxed and funny!

Improving the lives of children and families in North Edinburgh

Funded by The City of Edinburgh Council, The Haven Project supports children in the Early Years and Primary ages and their families in the North Edinburgh area.

Aberlour Options Lothian offers a range of short break services to children and young people with complex needs. We offer a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. During that break, children enjoy a range of fun activities and experiences with our staff. Our service is very much a ‘home from home’ for the children who stay with us. We are within easy commuting distance of Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian with access via the number 26, 111 and 124 bus routes.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for a Full Time Young People’s Worker that embodies our values for our residential respite service. As part of a small team, you will ensure that the highest level of physical and emotional care is provided to the children and young people. Experience in this type of work is preferred however we will consider all applications. The service opens Wednesdays afterschool and from Friday 11am to Monday 12pm. As such, the requirement is to work mainly weekends. Sleepovers form part of the regular working pattern as does occasional night awake shifts. Full details of rota requirements will be discussed at interview.

Our relief workers play a crucial role in supporting our team. This work is offered on a casual, hourly paid basis to provide cover during staff absence and/or particularly busy periods. Availability should be specified on your application form.
