Role

RNIB is the country’s leading sight loss charity. We campaign with blind and partially sighted people to tackle the barriers people with sight loss face, and work in partnership with local authorities as well as public, private and third sector bodies across Scotland to deliver projects and services.

RNIB is leading the creation of a world where there are no barriers for people with sight loss. One of our key priorities is to ask people to see sight loss differently, reversing inaccurate perceptions and changing public behaviours so everyone expects equal participation from people with sight loss and the creation of a fully accessible society.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Campaigns Officer to develop and deliver RNIB's strategic campaign priorities in Scotland, working closely with our blind and partially sighted campaigners.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working across a multi-disciplinary team to support the development and delivery of RNIB Scotland's campaigning priorities. You will actively facilitate and further develop a campaign network of blind and sighted people, including working with our award winning young blind and partially sighted campaign group Haggeye.

Linking with colleagues across the UK, you will also engage and support the on the ground delivery of RNIB priorities from across the UK and develop excellent networks.

You will also actively engage in political, societal and community networks to bring campaigning priorities to the attention of decision makers and society so that we can make real change happen for people with sight loss and help shift incorrect public perceptions of sight loss.

With experience of campaigning, and working with volunteers, you will bring energy, drive and determination to make a difference and in return will receive excellent support, and be part of a dynamic and driven team.

What you’ll need to succeed in this role

  • You’ll be a dedicated, hard working campaigner with strong personal skills and determination to make things happen.
  • You’ll have experience of working with volunteers, campaigning for change, building networks and be confident to make decisions in a fast paced environment.
  • You’ll be comfortable with working with people at all levels, and from all backgrounds and facilitating blind and partially sighted people to create societal change.
  • You’ll understand what barriers blind and partially sighted people face in their day to day lives, and how to cohere them into workable deliverable campaign plans that will change perceptions and remove barriers.
  • You’ll be able to/enjoy speaking with people from a whole range of backgrounds, from politicians at all levels, to journalists, other third sector organisations, companies, public sector civil servants and colleagues and making change.

In exchange we offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:

  • 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays – pro rata), which increase with service
  • Excellent pension schemes
  • RNIB Rewards - Our employee discounts platform gives you access to offers at over 800 in-store and online retailers
  • In-house training and development opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements - each new member of staff will be given a laptop to make working flexibly easy
