We have an exciting opportunity for a sustainability focussed Project Manager to join our team. Sustainability is engrained in Sustrans vision and mission. This is a chance for someone to combine their experience and knowledge with the enthusiasm and passion of our colleagues, supporters and volunteers to accelerate progress towards Sustrans delivering a net positive impact on the environment.
As the Environmental Sustainability Project Manager, you will identify ways to measure our environmental impact in terms of carbon, biodiversity and pollution – helping us to understand our footprint today and identify where we can focus efforts to improve.
You will develop a net positive strategy; prioritising activities where Sustrans can have the biggest impact; implementing those activities where feasible; and embedding a net positive framework and culture across the organisation.
This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans but can be based form home or anywhere in the UK.
About you
You will be an experienced Project Manager who has recent, relevant experience of leading a sustainability function, or programme of work, within a large and complex organisation. We will look for evidence of your experience in developing and implementing a strategic sustainability framework including effective systems, controls, reporting and governance mechanisms.
You will be a skilled communicator and build relationships easily, allowing you to work effectively with senior leaders, and a range of internal and external partners, to deliver transformational change at an organisational level.
We aim to be a truly inclusive employer and welcome applications from people from all parts of the community, in particular from under-represented groups. Sustrans is committed to reducing inequality, valuing diversity and enabling inclusion.
What we offer
You will be working in an environment where your colleagues are as passionate about environmental sustainability as you are. You’ll have the chance to work flexibly from home and in Sustrans offices.

About Sustrans
Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. We connect people and places, create liveable neighbourhoods, transform the school run and deliver a happier, healthier commute.
Our vision and mission have never been more relevant. Across the UK, governments are pledging investment and action on walking and cycling.
We are working together to make a real difference - creating places where everyone can live and travel happily and healthily, and where nobody is excluded.
One of our key strategic goals is to be a charity “for everyone”, building a more diverse and inclusive Sustrans. We recognise there is much more we can do to bring together diverse life experiences and voices to enable us to more fully understand, access and represent the communities we work in.
Our work wouldn’t be possible without the commitment and dedication of our colleagues.
We are proud of our employee net promoter score, being in the top 20% of all employers across all sectors in the UK, due to our energised, friendly and motivated workforce.
