The post holder will be responsible for developmental and admin aspects of the “Mental Health” project sponsored by The Scottish Government.

Partners in Advocacy has an exciting opportunity for a new CEO with a strong work ethic who is committed to shaping, and influencing, the direction of an ambitious voluntary organisation.
We are seeking a CEO who will provide leadership across PiA and ensure the successful delivery of independent advocacy. This will include working with the PiA board of Trustees to set the direction of the charity. As a role model for the mission and values that are fundamental to our success, the CEO will act in the interests of PiA, applying skill and care in the application of their duties and operating in a manner consistent with our purpose.
Partners in Advocacy is one of the largest providers of independent advocacy in Scotland, delivering high quality advocacy services since 1998.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our supportive and friendly Edinburgh team. The advocacy worker role will provide one to one independent advocacy for adults 16 plus with a learning or physical disability and for older people. The role ensures that people’s views and wishes are heard and they are able to make informed choices so that they have influence over decisions which affect their lives.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided to the successful applicant. The contract is till July 2023 and there is potential for that to be extended - subject to further funding by Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership.

The role will currently be primarily working from home with options of hybrid office working in the future - as well as regular meetings with advocacy partners in the community and clinical settings.

Individual Advocacy Worker (maternity cover)

This maternity cover post is a great opportunity to join CAPS’ friendly, supportive Individual Advocacy team to provide individual advocacy to adults with mental health issues in East Lothian and Midlothian. CAPS also provides advocacy to people who use drugs or alcohol in these areas.
The focus of the work is the provision of independent advocacy – making sure that people’s views and wishes are heard. You will make sure people are informed about their options and their rights and assist people with mental health issues to redress power imbalances in their lives. Advocacy is very rewarding work that makes a real difference. Full training will be provided.
This post will be subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. There will be a 4 month probationary period attached to this post. A mix of home and office working is possible.
This post is fixed term for 12 months initially to cover maternity leave and may continue thereafter subject to funding constraints.

Eating Disorders worker - 28 hours per week
Eating Disorders/Children’s Hearings worker – 32 hours per week
These two new posts will expand and strengthen CAPS’ Children and Young People’s small friendly team. One post will provide individual advocacy to children and young people in Lothian who are experiencing Eating Disorders, in the community and in hospital. The other will also work with children and young people aged 5 - 18 going through the Children’s Hearings system, in a joint post. See the Job Descriptions for full details.
The focus of the work is the provision of independent advocacy to support children and young people to express their views and wishes and have a stronger voice in issues affecting them. Experience of working with children and young people is required as well as proven skills in communicating with them. Advocacy training will be provided.
This post will be subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme for regulated work with children.
There will be a 6-month probationary period attached to this post. A mix of home and office working is possible.
