Role

About the role

As the Head of Design Engineering & Assurance for Scotland, you will lead Sustrans Scotland Design, Engineering and Assurance function, to support the effective delivery of programmes and be a senior influencer within active travel in Scotland.

You will hold responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the function, ensuring prioritisation and allocation of resources, to deliver projects against a range of financial and performance targets set in conjunction with our clients.

You will build and manage internal and external relationships with representatives from central and local government, active travel delivery partners, communities, Transport Scotland and other key people.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake work on behalf of Sustrans. You will work from a Sustrans office in Edinburgh or Glasgow with the flexibility to work from home, or home-based within reasonable travelling distance from Edinburgh or Glasgow

About you

You should have demonstrable experience of leading, motivating and managing a multi-disciplinary team, including a range of technical professionals qualified in civil engineering, urban design and mobility planning.

You will build relationships with ease across a wide range of people from senior leaders, partners and the general public, allowing you to positively influence people within the Active Travel Sector in Scotland at all levels.

You will have:

• A Degree (or equivalent ) in either Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering

• Relevant experience of civil engineering contract management (NEC3&4) for projects ranging in scale and complexity

• Experience in preparation of bills of quantities and construction cost estimates and preparation of technical drawings and specifications

Have good knowledge of:

• Health and safety management including CDM 2015

• Highway regulations and guidance such as Manual for Streets, Cycle By Design, DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW and Traffic Signs Manuals
