Are you interested in joining an award-winning Scottish charity whose aim is to provide support to people whose lives are affected by mental ill-health? Our Signature Project at the Stafford Centre in Edinburgh.

We are looking for someone with experience and understanding of PDST looking to use their skills and experience in an proactive support worker role to make a positive impact on men and boys suffering form PTSD and poor mental health. Support in Mind Scotland provides support throughout Scotland and offers a range of services to people directly affected by a mental health issue and to those who care for them, whether family, friend or supporter.

We are committed to delivering services shaped by the lived experienced of people affected by mental health. We believe in a holistic approach to providing support and aim to empower our service user to make the best use of what help and support is available to them.

In this challenging , impactful and new role, you will be responsible for delivering activities which support men and boys effected by PTSD. Working alongside the outreach worker and communication worker to deliver and sustain support to men and boys, the role offers you an opportunity to help and support men and boys with their mental health.

The signature Project is a service funded my MHUK and our charity partner Lloyds Bank – Signature Project is funded to help communities recover.

The aim of the project is to reach out to people experiencing PTSD and serous metal heal problems because of living through the pandemic, we are responding to an increase in referrals from GP’s for young men who are at increased risk of suicide

  • Develop appropriate messaging to reach men and boys experiencing poor mental health
  • Develop a city-wide outreach programme to be visible and mobile across all areas of the City
  • Set up mental health information and support hubs as ‘pop-ups’ in different locations
  • Work with Lothian Buses and Network Rail to run specific campaigns and activities in the 2 major station and across the bus network
  • Provide direct one to one support for people through our existing services or through one of our partners
  • Develop specific groupwork as needed – for information, awareness-raising, mental health awareness training or providing support
  • Ensure we have crisis intervention services in place and refer for specialist PTSD or other support as needed.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced outreach worker who has direct experience of supporting people with their mental health, including people living with complex issues, and who can demonstrate an ability to enable people to develop their own recovery plans. You should be able to evidence partnership working and bring a sound knowledge of the Edinburgh health and social care landscape. You should also be willing to embrace a culture of shared learning and reflection to bring creative solutions to the team. You should develop and sustain effective partnerships with local groups, services and officials; and negotiate access to community based services and groups, develop creative and innovative ways to reach out to those most isolated and vulnerable to ensure they receive help and support and develop and disseminate accurate information about the service to potential service
