Role
We are recruiting for an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead JustRight Scotland - Scotland’s legal centre for justice and human rights. This is an exciting opportunity to lead Scotland’s most innovative legal charity and to have a lasting impact on changing lives, ensuring that we live in a just and fair society.
At JRS, we use the law to defend and extend people’s rights. We provide advice and representation directly to individuals – by appointment, as well as through legal surgeries and legal helplines. We engage in policy and influencing work by contributing evidence from our legal expertise and the lived experience of people impacted by the issues we work on. We build innovative collaborations, and deliver public legal education, professional training and outreach. We believe in sharing our skills, and what we learn, with others along the way.
Transformation has framed the JRS journey since we were established in 2017. We are now looking for an experienced leader who shares our vision and values, to head our leadership team and develop and deliver a vision for the future.
You will be a skilled financial and operational manager, who is comfortable leading change to help our organisation stay agile in an ever-changing environment, and a confident communicator – able to communicate that vision to the public, media, government and our stakeholders in a credible and compelling way – to help us protect what we’ve built and take forward new opportunities.

As the Executive Officer at Forth Valley Advocacy you will join us at an exciting time in our development as we continue to deliver a recently extended contract for Independent Advocacy services in the Forth Valley area, currently extended until October 2024 with the option of extension to October 2025. This is a crucial post which will allow Forth Valley Advocacy to continue to provide high quality and person led Independent Advocacy services across the Forth Valley area.
As the Executive Officer, you will manage a team of energetic and enthusiastic Advocacy Workers, Team leader and Service Adminstrator. You will build strong partnerships with our funders, our referrers, external organisation, local communities and our colleagues in the NHS and Local Authorities. You will be the public face of Forth Valley Advocacy.
You will report and be accountable to the Chair and the Board of Trustees.
You will bring enthusiasm and leadership skills to the organisation during this exciting period of growth.
At present our office base is in Falkirk but hybrid working arrangements are in place, allowing for some working from home.
Major Tasks
To be a subject expert on benefits and welfare related areas.
Prepare and brief colleagues and departments as required.
Main Job Activities
1. To be a subject expert:
Understanding the rules, laws and regulations within the relevant subject area.
Review and highlight key information to colleagues from relevant literature, journals, and reports.
Identify areas of improvement for the organisation’s advice service, working with colleagues to implement strategic development plans.
Support relevant marketing and media activities.
2. To influence the operational processes associated with the relevant subject area:
Identifying and implementing key improvements across both advisor and customer journeys.
Strong depth of understanding related to enquiry patterns and trends.
Planning and horizon scanning to provide the most up-to-date information for our advisors.
3. Identify and develop collaborative partnerships with stakeholders within the subject area:
Partnership working with organisations we are currently engaged with, in addition to establishing possible new partnership opportunities with those we are not.
Monitoring, understanding, and responding to external consultations and changes within the relevant subject area.
4. Prepare and brief both senior colleagues and external stakeholders as required:
Regular development of reports and written briefings.
Inform and collaborate with our internal training department to influence training content.
Support advisory staff when required, providing subject specific guidance.
5. To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by Line Manager.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Scotland-based Legal Advisor to join our Legal Advice and Welfare Service.

About the role
Legal Advisors at Freedom from Torture deliver expert, detailed, advice to treatment clients and their clinicians on all areas of asylum and immigration law. There is a particular focus on complex, appeals rights exhausted cases where there is a risk of detention, and on supporting clients who are unrepresented. Legal Advisors review evidence produced by clinicians for use in clients’ asylum and immigration cases, ensuring that it complies with the standards required of a professional witness. Legal Advisors are also responsible for delivering internal and external training on a range of legal issues affecting torture survivors within the immigration and asylum system in the UK.
We are seeking to recruit a Legal Advisor for our Glasgow centre, who is a Scottish qualified legal professional with experience of advising on immigration and asylum matters within the Scottish legal system, and who could attend our Glasgow centre at least once every fortnight.
About you
You will be a legal professional qualified to practice in Scotland, with expertise in immigration and asylum law, particularly in relation to the legal protections available to survivors of torture. You will have experience of advising and representing clients in the Tribunals and Courts, including in judicial review claims. You will be able to communicate effectively and sensitively with people who have experienced trauma, and will be able to build professional relationships with a variety of colleagues both internally and externally. You will share our commitment to working with and empowering people who have experienced torture.
In return, we offer a competitive package, with a generous 30-day annual leave entitlement, and 6% employer pension contribution (minimum 1% employee contribution).
Freedom from Torture is committed to showing the salary for all advertised roles and not negotiating salaries for roles, in light of evidence that this contributes to structural inequality.
Our policy is that all appointments will be at the start of the salary range but successful candidates will have the opportunity to move up the scale over time. The progression up the salary range is reviewed on an annual basis and subject to affordability. For this role, the salary range is £47,655 - £54,445 pro rata per annum.
Purpose
We are currently in search of a passionate and experienced Learning and Development Trainer. This pivotal role is dedicated to crafting and delivering comprehensive training programs meticulously tailored to empower our staff members with the essential skills and knowledge they need. These programs are designed to enhance proficiency across our advice lines, encompassing benefits and debt.
It is essential that you have experience in welfare benefits and/or debt as well as delivering innovative and practical training.
Major Duties
Ensuring training courses are researched, created, and delivered to a high standard, using the latest developments and technology.
Monitoring and assessing the skill level of each member of staff within the organisation. Ensuring that all team members have the level of knowledge to perform at a high level.
Maintaining the external training accreditations awarded to the organisation.
Maintaining knowledge of the latest developments within the knowledge areas the organisation addresses as well as the latest learning and development techniques.
