We deliver information, advice and direct support services that enable unpaid carers to continue to care, whilst maintaining their own health and wellbeing. Thanks to Carers Trust ‘Making Carers Count’ programme we have been successful in funding a new 2 year LGBTQ+ Carer Project.

For this project we are recruiting a full time LGBTQ+ Carer Services Coordinator. This specialist role will support Lanarkshire Carers to deliver an inclusive service to carers belonging to LGBTQ+ communities. This role requires personal understanding and broad experience of LGBTQ+ carer issues and a strong commitment and desire for learning, development, and continual improvement of our approach to under-represented carers as a whole. The LGBTQ+ Coordinator will inform positive changes to practice, communication, and service offer. The specific area of work will be to support carers from the LGBTQ+ community, undertake LBGTQ+ research, engagement and collaboration effectively.

This project aims to ensure that carers from this under-represented group are identified and their barriers addressed so that they are engaged, informed, involved, supported and empowered to manage and sustain caring roles. This project management position will ensure LGBTQ+ carers are aware of their rights and are recognised and valued as equal partners in care.

Working closely with communities and partner organisations, the LGBTQ+ Carer Services Coordinator will inform and identify specific barriers and issues that affect carers from this underrepresented group. Post holders will be based between our centres in Hamilton and Airdrie, and localities throughout Lanarkshire. Working from home/hybrid working may also be required.

All staff work on an outreach basis in community, health and social care venues across Lanarkshire.
