Access through Advocacy
Advocacy Worker (Glasgow)
For more than seven years, Bethany Christian Trust have been working in communities in and around Glasgow. As we’ve immersed ourselves into communities we’ve seen a demand for independent advocacy support amongst people with experience of the justice system, people in recovery from substances and those at risk of homelessness.
We are looking for two person centred candidates who will support the coproduction and delivery of Bethany’s new Access through Advocacy service within community settings. A significant part of the role will also be developing relationships with existing partner organisations and churches around Glasgow and over time extending across the central belt.
The principal role of the Advocacy Worker will be to collate information from individuals and advocate with and for people to overcome issues primarily relating to welfare rights, benefits, challenging decisions, resolution of tenancy issues, health rights and accessing the right health provision, fuel insecurity, dealing with bills and understanding bank accounts.
It is essential that you have worked with people that have experienced gaps in systems and problems accessing key services. A qualification in advocacy or a related discipline at SCQF level 7 is essential, or a willingness to work towards such a qualification. Such a qualification will influence the initial salary.
As Bethany is a Christian organisation this post carries an Occupational Requirement in line with Equality Act 2010. Please note that one reference must be from your church minister or leader to endorse your live and active Christian faith and commitment. Successful applicants for this post will require membership of the PVG scheme.
