Winchburgh Community Development Trust (WCDT) is a company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity (SC 048619). It was set up in November 2016 by the community for community benefit. There is a Board of Trustee Directors supported by a Company Secretary and a Book Keeper.
The current vision of the Trust is:“To take the old shale village of Winchburgh into the future through community engagement, keeping its spirit and history alive, creating sustainable growth and enterprise - a village with heart that offers opportunities for residents and a welcoming destination for visitors.”
Winchburgh is undergoing significant changes including major housing developments, new schools, transport links and a new town centre. One of the key elements of this role will be to ensure community cohesion throughout this transition.
WCDT aims to ensure life in the community is the best it can be for everyone, enabling people to live happy, healthy lives with equality of opportunity as we transition from a village to a small town.
The ambition of WCDT is set out in the 2019 Local Place Framework Plan, based on a previous Community Study which details key issues identified by the community:
Purpose of Job
This is a new post, offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to further the work of WCDT. Working closely with the community, you will develop various projects in line with WCDT’s planning framework. Being able to work on your own, you will have a demonstratable understanding of community development, and a positive, solution focussed attitude.

The post will be supported by the Board of Directors, with a nominated Director as the main point of contact. There will be regular meetings with the link Director. The post holder will be expected to present reports to Board meetings.

Hours/contract:35 hours per week. Some weekend and evenings will be required. Hours of work are flexible and can be negotiated subject to the needs of the project. At least initially, the working week will be split between working from an identified space in the community and working from home. 2 year fixed term appointment including a 6 month probationary period.
20 days paid leave per annum plus 10 public holidays.
