Purpose of the post:To make a real difference in the lives of victims of domestic abuse and their children, by developing, leading and managing staff and the day-to-day operations of the Dundee MIA Service to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service, in line with the ethos, values, protocols and service standards of the Commissioner and of Barnardo’s and Dundee Women’s Aid; To influence and challenge Commissioners, partners in practice, and other stakeholders, in order to maintain and develop the MIA Service’s reputation as an advocate for victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for staff management, including training and induction of new staff and continuing professional development; support and supervision; annual leave, flexible working, and absence management; team meetings; liaise with Senior Advocates on day-to-day staff management, rotas and high-risk cases; ensure staff adherence to the IDVA charter, MIA ethos, policies and procedures governing all aspects of service delivery; ensure staff adherence to data protection. Continuously review the service operating procedures.
  • Responsibility for service development and management of the daily operations of the MIA Service, including ensuring the safety of victims of domestic abuse and their children are central to all processes; continuously monitor and review the service to ensure that systems, procedures and protocols support a high-quality service, with a focus on those clients most at risk; ensure the maintenance of accurate client records and multi-agency sharing reports e.g., child protection, court and MARAC reports; ensure robust risk assessment, safety planning and case work is in line with Safe Lives guidelines; liaise with partner agencies to develop and maintain effective referral mechanisms and operational systems for delivering a co-ordinated, multi-agency response to clients; contribute to service developments and multi-agency initiatives; ensure accountability within a multi-agency framework; ensure robust outcomes monitoring results in optimum service performance at all times; chair MARAC meetings; provide regular reports and statistics to the Court Advocacy Oversight group.
  • Responsibility for business development, including the preparation and presentation of reports to inform stakeholders and commissioners; provide input, expertise and knowledge to maintain existing contracts and secure future contracts; lead in the development of annual and strategic plans for the service and provide performance updates as required; to monitor, evaluate, review and implement key targets and objectives in line with the Service Level Agreement and Key Performance Indicators for MIA in line with Dundee City Council’s overall strategic priorities and other funding bodies; active engagement in all management planning and monitoring processes so that Performance Management and Management Reporting and Information is up to date and meaningful.
  • Responsibility for elements of the MIA Service budget including planning and monitoring of the contract budget; exercising good cost management and appropriate financial control to maintain efficiency and effectiveness. Lead on the preparation of funding bids for the service.
