Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a busy and dynamic three-person team that plays a crucial role within a national third sector organisation. Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) is Scotland’s national resource of expertise on drugs and related issues. We seek to lead and represent the drugs field in Scotland in order to improve Scotland’s response to problem drug use.

We are pleased to be recruiting for this exciting new position. The Communications Assistant (Media) will deliver our media activity, creating content in response to media enquiries, and developing pro-active media content as well as maintaining SDF’s social media profile. The job also involves supporting our communication and information activity on a day-to-day basis.

This post will involve developing SDF’s communications generally and particularly our existing media contacts and social media profile as well as content for a range of audiences including people who use drugs; people who use drug treatment and support services; staff and management in treatment and support services; other professionals; politicians and the media.

Working with two colleagues, the post supports SDF’s websites and other online channels - as well as content creation for regular e-bulletins. The team also supports SDF’s programme of online and live events and our internal staff communication.

As part of a team, you will be supported to develop skills in all areas.

You will have enthusiasm and a demonstrable aptitude for creating copy ready content. Strong communications skills are required and an interest and aptitude for developing discourse in a sensitive and potentially controversial field is desirable.

Benefits

As an SDF employee, you will benefit from a range of learning and development opportunities, competitive pension contribution, generous annual leave entitlement, enhanced sick pay and an employee support and counselling service. SDF encourage a healthy work life balance and also offer a flexible working scheme.

The successful candidate will be based at SDF’s Head Office, which is located in Glasgow city centre, close to Central Station. Under current pandemic restrictions SDF’s office has been closed as a ‘non-essential office’. Candidates should be willing and able to work effectively from home under these circumstances.
