Role profile
The Training Lead is a new exciting post, and is an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) within Money Advice Scotland. The main purpose of this role is to create a new programme of money advice training as well as to manage, lead and inspire the Money Advice Scotland training team in our goal to raise the quality and standards of money (debt) advice in Scotland by delivering engaging, informative, and quality training.
Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer
Key responsibilities
- Create a new, up to date programme of debt advice training and also review existing training materials produced by third parties to determine appropriateness and relevance
- Liaise with our customers and internal departments to gain an understanding of training needs; assess training to develop and produce innovative training solutions that include web-based seminars, printed manuals, group sessions, training videos, and more
- Lead, inspire and develop the Money Advice Scotland Consultants team to empower and enable them to do their jobs to the best of their ability
- Present in-person and online training sessions and higher qualified personnel as and when the need arises.
- Monitor training programmes and manuals to ensure that they are effective and up to date and make updates as necessary
- Work with managers to address any learning issues, instruction problems, or new educational needs
- Maintain understanding of new educational and training techniques and methods
- Manage budgets
- Monitor and evaluate training programme’s effectiveness
- Other relevant tasks as required
Essential Skills
- Strong knowledge of Scottish debt/money advice in order to create appropriate training
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills that allow you to manage, lead and inspire your team
- Ability to think strategically
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office products, Adobe Connect, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
- Ability to build relationships and fully engage with various management teams
- Track record in designing and executing informative, engaging and successful training programmes
- Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations etc.)
- Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively

By creating and managing Money Advice Scotland’s debt advice training courses, you’ll engage with key audiences, and be an important part of ensuring that people in debt receive quality debt advice.

Increasing volunteering – CAB Network
The Increasing Volunteering project was developed following a successful virtual Adviser Training Programme in 2020. It is designed to provide virtual training with live trainers for all bureaux in Scotland in conjunction with the Adviser Training Programme. The project is focused on supporting Scottish bureaux to increase their volunteering capacity through training support due to an increasing demand on services.
National Projects
Citizens Advice Bureau West Lothian offer advice services in relation to National Project work covering various specialised topics and facilitated by trained project advisers.
Summary of the Role
The Team Leader will be responsible for the running of the projects and engaging with Bureaux in relation to the Increasing Volunteering project. They will provide supervision to ensure teams operate efficiently and are achieving required outcomes.
The Team Leader will ensure that the projects are adequately staffed at all times and provide a level of session support and quality assurance.
Main Responsibilities
- To act as the main point of contact for the team.
- Ensure that work rotas are maintained and that there is adequate staff to cover during periods of absence.
- Training and Induction of Training Officers.
- Support new staff when completing the ATP together with shadowing, mentoring and management checks.
- Manage PR activities – social media, press, radio.
- Ensure training delivery is to a high standard and evaluate effectiveness.
- Review and evaluate the projects at regular intervals and ensure targets are being met and quality is consistent.
- Assist and support training officers to implement new programmes and distribute these to participating bureaux.
- Engage with and ensure an effective working relationship with participating Bureaux.
- Organise bespoke training as required.
- Support staff with regards to identifying training needs and ensuring access to appropriate training.
- Provide monthly and quarterly progress reports in relation to the Increasing Volunteering Project.
- Ensure project staff are producing and submitting reports as required.
- Carrying out other duties as specified by the Manager and required by the needs of the post.

WorkingRite seeks to stop the cycle of deprivation and poverty that occur in so many communities across Scotland. We do this through our award-winning, youth employability programme, which sees practical work skills coupled with personal development, strengthened through a mentored work placement with a small, local business of the young person’s choice.

This is a multifaceted role, that requires an ability to understand our on-ground delivery, whilst putting structures and processes in place that support the team in successfully delivering positives outcomes for the young people we support.
With significant investment recently received to grow Rite to Work, the ability to manage and engage and report on its progress internally and to key stakeholders including local authorities, education authorities and other key partners is key. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the organisational strategy forward and developing the Rite to Work programme as a recognised progression route for secondary school pupils across Scotland.
