Role

Service: Time for You

Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity.

SAMH has represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years.

Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.

For Scotland’s Mental Health

The ‘Time for You’ project brings SAMH, Living Life to the Full Ltd. (LLTTF) and Glasgow Caledonian University together to provide three options of accessible mental health support (self-help, supported self-help and psychological support) to those who have been at the frontline since lockdown started in March 2020. Keyworkers have worked tirelessly, in extremely challenging working situations, and many will have struggled with stress and high levels of anxiety about their own safety, the safety of their families and the safety of the people they supported. We feel it is vital that we offer the chance for Key Workers to take some time back to care for themselves.

Time for You will provide support to keyworkers, for example, those working in health, social care, education, criminal justice, retail, food supply and public transport; to enable them to recover from the significant pressures they will have experienced since lockdown; to develop coping strategies enabling them to self-manage their own mental health and remain in their crucial roles. As well as benefitting people’s mental health, this service will bring huge societal benefits in terms of health and the economy by helping to keep keyworkers in their roles as Scotland seeks to recover and rebuild.

As a Wellbeing Practitioner, you will be responsible for supporting people as they work through their chosen modules of Living Life to the Full. The support you provide will range from short wellbeing check-ins and progress reports to 60-minute sessions of 1:1 coaching, using the Cognitive Behavioural Approaches of Living Life to the Full and other support resources available.

As the position will involve a variety of shift patterns including evenings, you will be flexible in the hours and shifts you are available to work. The post will be home based during the current government restrictions and support will be delivered via Video Call, Telephone, Text and/or Email.

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to make a difference to peoples’ lives and support them to achieve their identified outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a mature attitude together with adaptability and enthusiasm. Knowledge and experience in supporting people with mental health problems is essential.
