Role

Space are recruiting for an experienced Project Worker to join our Young Carers service in South West Edinburgh, working with Young Adult Carers aged 16-25 years.

The post-holder will work alongside colleagues in our Youth & Families team to improve the quality of life of young adult carers in South West Edinburgh.

Our Young Adult Carer drop in support group is on a Wednesday evening therefore the role includes a commitment of working until 8.30pm on a Wednesday evening each week. The rest of the hours are flexible across the week.

Please note we arrange two weekend residential trips annually, which the project worker must attend.

Key Duties

  • Work with young adult carers and their families, on an individual and group basis, using a variety of interventions, to identify needs and to achieve positive outcomes
  • Plan and run weekly, evening drop in group sessions. Offering fun, educational, cultural and issue-based sessions, working within a set budget
  • Carry out home visits for new referrals
  • Work closely with Space Adult Carers service to promote a supported transition when required
  • Carry out reporting and administrative duties including maintaining the Young Carers database
  • Maintain accurate digital and paper records
  • Arrange and accompany carers on day trips and residential trips

The successful candidate will have a suitable qualification and at least 3 years’ experience of working with children and young people in a role that has included providing individual and group support.

This post requires membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

Space alongside Edinburgh Young Carers and Capital Carers are organisations funded by the City of Edinburgh Council to provide specialist support to young carers and young adult carers across Edinburgh.

The three organisations believe that working together as the Edinburgh Young Carer Partnership will provide a more comprehensive and holistic package of support, that works across the four city localities and will be a more cost-effective way of funding the specialist services necessary to support these young people who are young carers.
