What we are looking for....
Are you passionate about children being able to be all they can be in the face of challenging circumstances? Could you help to provide a loving, nurturing family home for children who have suffered early life trauma? Can you help Aberlour Be Brave in meeting and exceeding the needs of the children who live with us? If so, we want to hear from you.
Our full time hours are 37.5 per week and your hours will be worked on a residential rota including early, late, nights, sleepovers and weekend shifts.
Aberlour’s values are critical and drive everything we do, from recruitment to how we work with the children and young people who live with us and how we interact with each other. Throughout the selection process we will be looking for someone who is able to demonstrate how Aberlour’s values of Respect, Innovation, Integrity and Challenge will be visible in their practice. Can you walk the walk as well as talk the talk? If so, we need to understand how. How will you show the children that they are loved? What does being loved mean in the context of residential child care? You must be comfortable with working in an environment where Aberlour’s values are lived in practice, including being able to challenge your colleagues and/or managers when necessary. Our vision is that our children’s houses will provide a loving home where everyone laughs, learns, grows into their future and is treasured always.
Children talk about wanting to feel safe with adults who know, understand and love them and who they trust. The care experience of our children is our first consideration and we believe that what we do provides a rewarding experience for individuals who work in the houses.

In Aberlour, we want to do more than plaster over the cracks or achieve a ‘quick fix’. We aim to create genuine transformational change for the children and young people that will make a meaningful difference to their lives in the medium to long term. The work is challenging and it takes time, sometimes considerable time, before we see results. You need to be resilient and be able to recognise the quick wins that over time will build up and represent real progress.
Having recently achieved a Platinum Investors in People award, we are driving innovation to help #KeepThePromise, focussing on ensuring our children and young people’s rights, as enshrined in the United Convention for the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), are at the forefront of our practice.
Aberlour expects all adults to be exceptional role models to both colleagues and young people alike building mutually trusting relationships strongly based on Aberlour’s values – this is a particular expectation of this role.
The successful candidate must be an effective contributor to our vision with unwavering commitment to the work to enable you to deal positively with the challenges and opportunities that distressed children can bring to their care experience. Importantly, we want to hear from candidates who believe that children can be understood and responded to without needing to use physical restraint, in line with our innovative approach to becoming more developmentally informed as to how best to support children when their early life experiences cause them distress.
