VOCAL - Voice of Carers Across Lothian - seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Carer Support Practitioner to join its busy team to provide casework support to carers, with a specific focus on South East Edinburgh. The post holder will support unpaid carers to access person-centred support for their caring situation, health and wellbeing and personal development.

VOCAL is a carer-led organisation and provides a wide range of services to support unpaid carers in their caring role. The post-holder will be expected to work as part of a team, improve outcomes for carers and maximise uptake of VOCAL services.

Applicants will evidence excellent people, and communication skills, casework and person-centred support work. Applicants will also demonstrate awareness of the diverse range of caring situations, the impact of caring on peoples’ lives and barriers carers face at different points of the caring journey. Good working knowledge of health and social care will be expected.

The principal purpose of this post is to manage, support and co-ordinate the day-to-day operation of the allocated service areas and provide line management to their direct reports. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team on FDAMH wide matters, ensuring that your Mental Health experience is included in key organisation decisions.

The Senior Service Manager will be a skilled, knowledgeable and experienced individual. You must have substantive previous operational management, mental health experience and excellent communication skills.

Able to demonstrate previous experience of managing and developing teams using innovative systems to achieve challenging goals, you should be positive, supportive, able to work in a collaborative way, and have excellent interpersonal relationship skills.

Carers of East Lothian is the local organisation supporting adults who care for family and friends. We have an excellent reputation, recently gaining recognition through the Carers Trust ‘Excellence for Carers’ Award, and currently have the contract to deliver adult carer services across East Lothian until June 2025, as well as additional one-year funding to employ a Hospital Link Carer Support Worker as a test of change. The purpose of this post is to identify, support and signpost unpaid carers in a ward setting at East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington, ensuring carers are well placed to act as equal partners in care. In particular, the post holder will be expected to support carers to become more involved in planning for the future for people they care for, and to ensure the carers are aware how to access support once patients are discharged into the community. This post would work closely with ward staff and the multidisciplinary team to help ensure an effective, efficient and timely discharge of a patient with ongoing care needs to return to their place of home or place of rehabilitation with the necessary support in place, informed by the patient, their health care professionals, and their carer.
