Role
CAPS is looking for a new Collective Advocacy worker to focus on the views and wishes of people with mental health issues living in Edinburgh. The role is to ensure people’s voices are heard by decision-makers locally and invite people to draw on their experiences to bring about change, such as improving mental health services.
This post will take the lead on Edinburgh wide mental health collective advocacy, working alongside a new Collective Advocacy for Peer workers and volunteers in Edinburgh. These two new roles will support each other and join the existing enthusiastic team of CAPS Collective Advocacy workers, who work across Lothian on eight different mental health related collective advocacy projects.
The role offers autonomy and flexibility. You should be friendly and approachable, with the ability to form trusting relationships with group members and colleagues. Good local knowledge of Edinburgh is preferred. Some working from home is possible. As the Executive Officer at Forth Valley Advocacy you will join us at an exciting time in our development as we continue to deliver a recently extended contract for Independent Advocacy services in the Forth Valley area, currently extended until October 2024 with the option of extension to October 2025. This is a crucial post which will allow Forth Valley Advocacy to continue to provide high quality and person led Independent Advocacy services across the Forth Valley area.

At present our office base is in Falkirk but hybrid working arrangements are in place, allowing for some working from home.

The Head of Counselling has a key role:
- Managing and delivering counselling service.
- Ensuring robust governance of the service.
- Working with the church leadership team to ensure there is strong interface with other church ministries and that the counselling service is integral part of its vision and strategy
The Counselling Service is a member of the Association of Christian Counsellors and adheres to their statement of faith and code of conduct.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Lead and manage Ps & Gs Counselling Service.
- Manage Counselling Staff team.
- Oversee a team of volunteer counsellors.
- Provide support and guidance to both qualified and student counsellors.
- Ensure all qualified and student counsellors receive required level of supervision.
- Offer supervision as appropriate.
- Hold a personal caseload.
- Plan a programme of CPD for the team.
- Take the professional lead in reviewing/updating counselling policies and practices.
- Lead and supervise the development and implementation of all operational business plans and service improvement.
- Lead on the recruitment and induction of volunteer trainee and qualified counsellors and volunteer receptionists.
- Attend staff prayers and other staff meetings each week and establish working relationships with the wider staff team.
- Report annually to Vestry.
- You will be responsible for the budgets for the counselling service, under the direction of the Finance Team.
- Ensure team have regular safeguarding training and all safeguarding guidelines are followed.
- Follow GDPR guidelines and ensure IT is used responsibly, including safe storage and appropriate retention of client information.
- With the Support of the Counselling Advisory group, ensure a pattern of review for governance, best practice, guidance and procedures.
