Role

Are you passionate about tackling the climate change emergency and able to donate your time and skills to play a key role in the fight? Then we need you on board. Changeworks, Scotland’s leading environmental charity, is recruiting up to two trustees and non-executive directors who will help us achieve our mission of delivering high-impact solutions for low carbon living.

As part of this rewarding voluntary position, you will sit on our Board and help ensure we meet our governance, legal and strategic responsibilities while advocating for Changeworks’ vision and objectives. The ideal candidates will have experience of working at a senior level and could come from a range of professional backgrounds, such as a supervisor, a trustee, or a manager. You’ll have the willingness and ability to make decisions that affect the entire organisation to support Changeworks in achieving our objectives.

The role will involve working with Board members, the Chair, Changeworks’ Chief Executive, and other senior employees to find solutions and spot opportunities. You’ll use your communication skills to share your thoughts and questions in a constructive way, whilst bringing a diligence to preparing and attending meetings. We welcome applications from experienced and first-time board members with the right skills.

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with a strong belief in the need to tackle the climate emergency. We’d welcome applications from people with a variety of knowledge, interests, and experiences in one or more of the following areas: financial knowledge, lived experience in rural communities, Scottish and UK policy relating to areas we operate in, or the Third Sector. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals with experience or knowledge of housing or construction, business growth and transformation, or lived experience of Changeworks as a customer or client.

You’ll be joining Changeworks at a very exciting time as we’ve recently launched a new strategy to help us scale our work and achieve our mission of decarbonising Scottish homes. As a Board member, you will be at the forefront of these ambitious plans.

At a time when climate change is the most significant threat to the environment and our way of life, this is an important volunteer role that delivers real satisfaction.

Benefits

Joining Changeworks means you become part of an exciting and innovative organisation that really cares about its volunteers and employees. Our staff overwhelmingly say that they would recommend us as an employer – and it’s no surprise that we were nominated for the Employer of the Year by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce in 2022.

As a voluntary Board member, not only will you gain a range of new transferable skills, but you will also make a real difference to the lives of people in Scotland. Together, we can create a world where everyone is able to live, work and enjoy life with a low carbon impact.

At Changeworks, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone. We appreciate the value that a variety of different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives brings. It is important to us that our Board is reflective of the diverse perspectives in our society.
