Amma Birth Companions is a Glasgow charity that supports women and birthing people who are facing significant adversity on their journey to parenthood. Our mission is to create a supportive space where individuals feel seen, informed, and empowered in all aspects of their birth experience.

We provide volunteer companions, peer support activities and antenatal education to those who are facing pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with limited support. This includes, but is not limited to, those who are refugees and in the asylum process.

Our companions offer one-to-one emotional and practical support throughout the perinatal phase and our ‘Amma Family’ programme facilitates opportunities for our participants to connect with one another and their communities.

Role

This new post will manage and further develop the Amma Family programme. This peer support programme currently consists of activities including parent and baby groups, exercise class, garden activities, and workshops.

Main duties:

• Managing the small Amma Family staff team
• Managing the weekly programme of activities
• Developing the programme in line with the needs, wants, knowledge and skills of the participants and adopting the principles of peer support and co-production
• Ensuring that peer supporters, Amma Family volunteers and placement students are recruited, trained, nurtured, managed, and supported
• Risk assessing activities and ensuring safe working
• Managing an active WhatsApp group which enables information sharing and connection between parents
• Working with senior management to tailor the Amma Family programme to the needs of new participant groups
• Supporting and encouraging new participants to engage with activities, finding ways to overcome barriers to participation
• Facilitating groups, ensuring participants feel engaged and included
• Sensitively dealing with issues arising within groups
• Collaborating with others (internal and external) to run a series of social events, workshops, and other opportunities for participants throughout the year
• Working in partnership with community gardening organisations to develop outdoor opportunities throughout the summer
• Oversee administration for the groups including organising catering, expenses, travel as well as room preparation and tidy up
• Ensuring participants with unmet needs are referred or signposted for support
• Keeping thorough records of attendance and participation using our participant database
• Monitoring and evaluating activities
• Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with Amma’s policies and procedures

The need for employment support for refugees in the UK is growing. Breaking Barriers’ (BB) intention is to deliver employment support to as many refugees who need it, whilst growing the organisation in a sustainable way. Over the coming years we are aiming to significantly scale our programmes and reach communities in new areas of the UK.

As the next step in our growth, BB has an opportunity to establish a presence in Glasgow to work collaboratively to meet the needs of local refugee communities and of the broader sector. We will work closely with local, regional, and national partners to develop programmes in response to the needs of local refugees, organisations and existing infrastructure, flexing our model where needed to avoid duplication and ensure we are filling gaps where our services will have the most impact.

The Senior Programme Manager will be our first hire in Glasgow, and a critical role for launching and shaping our programmes, model, and team in the region. This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial and strategic thinker with a passion for employment as a route to independence and empowerment to leave a lasting impact on our clients and our organisation.

Purpose of the role:

Your primary responsibility will be to lead BB’s employment programme strategy and work with the Head of Employment Programmes to establish our Glasgow operations and ensure we provide clients in the region with high standards of delivery.

Working collaboratively with Head of Employment Programmes, you will take ownership of setting up our delivery within this region and lead on the delivery of activities and funding commitments and providing accurate and timely reporting. You will be an ambassador for BB externally and take a lead role in building our networks of referral partners within the region to establish our presence and generate referrals. You will line manage and support a team of Employment Advisers, enabling them to provide high-quality support to clients and coordinate the day-to-day operational activity which keeps our programmes running.

We are looking for someone highly organised and strategic with a good knowledge of employability and/or refugee sector in Glasgow. You should have a demonstrable track record of transferrable work experience in overseeing service delivery and employability projects or programmes. Equally important is a demonstrable commitment to working with marginalised populations who face barriers to employment, particularly refugees. You should be a self-starter who can work autonomously and at pace, with the leadership skills to successfully establish BB’s presence within a new region and build and motivate a team that feels connected to the charity’s identity and mission.

• Establish and build BB’s presence and programmes on the ground in Glasgow, supported by the wider Programmes leadership team to design and implement local delivery models suited to local client needs;

• Provide impactful, inspirational leadership to the BB team in Glasgow and oversee delivery of employment support within the region;

• Ensure that BB’s programmes strategy and delivery within Glasgow is client-led, high-quality, accessible, and adaptable to new opportunities.

• Support the Head of Employment Programmes with the growth and development of BB’s programmes within Glasgow to enable BB to expand our reach, create more outcomes for refugee communities and positively influence partners and the wider sector.

Scottish Cot Death Trust is Scotland’s only charity dedicated to the issue of the sudden and unexpected death of babies and young children. A key part of our work is providing a range of support for families and we’re looking for an experienced and compassionate Bereavement Support Manager to join our team. This is a new role and will be central to our commitment to working with and supporting families.

Our Bereavement Support Manager will oversee our bereavement services, directly support families, and further develop provision, including volunteering programmes. Circular Communities Scotland (previously CRNS) is a membership network with a vision for a thriving circular economy in Scotland with local communities benefiting from the social, environmental, and economic outcomes. With a growing membership of over 250 charities and social enterprises we are always looking for new ways to support the circular community’s sector and see our vision become a reality.

In 2022 we began an exciting project funded by the Scottish Government and Zero Waste Scotland, which has the ambitious goals to grow fourfold the number of Sharing Libraries and Repair Cafés in Scotland over the next three years by establishing the Share and Repair Network. The project has made excellent progress during the first 15 months, but we are now seeking a strong candidate to provide maternity cover for our coordinator.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be responsible for running this network. Working with experts within the sector, you will prepare a wide variety of deliverables agreed with our funders including delivering training courses, networking events and an annual in person Gathering, and arranging research projects. This is a real opportunity to significantly increase the amount of sharing and repairing happening in Scotland thereby combatting climate change.

We are also determined to get the right person to join our strong team which is why we are open to exploring different options regarding place of work from office based to remote working.

We are looking for a strong self-starter with a proven track record of delivery so you can hit the ground running. You need to be a strong communicator, self-organised and able to manage a complex range of deliverables over a fairly short period of time. You need to be passionate about the circular economy and sustainability in general and some experience of our sector would be positive.
