Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people experiencing fuel poverty and food insecurity.

Our team of 40 staff and 100 volunteers delivers a wide range of grant-funded projects and social enterprise (income-generating) activities, including the Lang Toun Cycles Community Bike Shop and The Lang Spoon Community Kitchen. We work in Kirkcaldy and across the region of Fife, often in partnership with other charities, public-sector organisations and social enterprises. Our work is diverse and includes programmes of action on climate change, fuel poverty and food insecurity, encouraging individuals, households, community groups and businesses to make Fife a greener and fairer place to live.

We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to play a key role in the delivery of Greener Kirkcaldy’s organisational strategy.

The Business Development Manager will coordinate business development, funding and fundraising across the organisation. They will build internal capacity to support a more enterprising culture and grow our portfolio of social enterprise projects. They will also lead a team to coordinate communications and development services across Greener Kirkcaldy’s projects and teams.

Hours of work: full time (35 hours per week) or 28 hours per week (0.8 full-time equivalent). We would consider requests to work fewer hours.

Our vision is that by 2050, young people will be active citizens, having led and accelerated the progress to a just and sustainable society. Since we formed in 2014, we have been working to empower, equip and enable Scotland's young leaders, aged 18-35, to lead action on tackling the climate crisis.

We are volunteer-driven and the majority of our work is delivered by a large committed group of volunteers with key support from our trustees and a small staff team. Job Purpose

The job will play a critical role in supporting the organisation’s day-to-day operations with a strong focus on volunteer support and development. This role will work across the range of functions to make sure we have the right administrative and project management support in place for our volunteer team, staff, the Director and trustees. This role will also assist the development and growth of our Leaders Network. The Leaders Network allows Young Leaders, past and present, to build knowledge, develop projects, collaborate with others, share skills and lead climate action towards a just and sustainable society.

You will be a flexible individual, able to co-ordinate people, processes, and projects with confidence and quickly be able to build rapport with stakeholders. The role will be essential in administering and co-ordinating the activities of 2050 Climate Group including financial administration and event support. The role will work closely with volunteers, therefore flexibility with working patterns is required to support some evening and weekend work.

Purpose of Role

The Equalities Outreach Program (Scotland) is an initiative to open the outdoors to groups that feel excluded and marginalised from the sector. Year one will focus on establishing community-based contacts in urban areas and testing a delivery framework with a focus on refugees, asylum seekers and people from minority ethnic communities.

Your work will be exploratory and experimental in nature, and define how we:

• Create experiences for individuals and community groups.
• Provide skills that support people to enjoy walking independently, and with friends and family.
• Enable community support organisations to embed walking activity into their support offer.
• Create bridges between existing Ramblers groups and marginalised communities.

The role

The initial focus will be on engaging with organisations which support refugees and asylum seekers, and with Scotland’s minority ethnic communities.

Action research. By taking a ‘learning by doing’ approach you will map community assets, evaluate the transferability of existing Ramblers approaches and develop new ways of working that help us to get more people walking. You will be resilient and motivated to learn through creative exploration.

Engaging stakeholders. You will identify and engage with a range of community-based organisations in Scotland. By providing support, advice and training they will extend their programmes to include brilliant walking experiences for community members. You’ll appreciate what partners can bring to the table, and work with them to co-design programmes of activity with and for community members.

Engaging with communities. As a walk leader and a trainer, you will share your passion for walking so that marginalised groups can experience the outdoors. By leading inspiring introductory walks, delivering skills courses in the outdoors, and supporting volunteers, you will bring to life the joy of walking for everyone.

Impact and evaluation. You will understand the importance of gathering data to demonstrate reach and impact. Collaborating with the wider Ramblers team, you will ensure appropriate data and reporting processes are in place to monitor and report on the impact of this work.

Working with volunteers. Collaborating with the wider Ramblers team and our volunteers, you will support us to develop effective ways to build bridges into existing Ramblers walking groups, helping to create a warm welcome for everyone.

Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required of the post holder by the Ramblers.

Qualification

• Lowland leader or Hill and Moorland leader qualification (or the ability to work towards qualification immediately).
• Knowledge and Experience

• Experience of working with local community organisations to support change in the 3rd sector.
• Experience of delivering public health or sport and physical activity programmes.

• Understanding of audience motivations, barriers to inclusion and the links between physical activity and physical and mental health outcomes.
• A good understanding of volunteering and experience of supporting volunteers.
• Experience of assessing and managing risk in relation to physical activities.

Description: The Trust is looking for two Trustees with expertise in science and conservation to join our Board. Trustees work well together, and with the executive team with a spirit of openness and trust. We recruit individuals passionate about nature, species conservation and bumblebees.
