The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) exists to promote Scottish dancing globally as a fun, friendly, inclusive and healthy activity which can be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere. RSCDS deliver their mission to today’s generation by running activities and annual events throughout the UK and further afield, all with a focus on Scottish Country Dance.
With an extensive network of RSCDS branches and affiliated groups already working at local level to organise and deliver Scottish Country Dance courses, ceilidhs and workshops in their communities, this fantastic charity is able to reach huge numbers of dancers around the world. RSCDS work on everything from implementing the overall strategy of the charity to the successful delivery of the intensive four-week Summer School in St Andrews. They work in partnership with a board of trustees and three committees who come from a variety of backgrounds, all working voluntarily.
The opportunity has now arisen for a new Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join the passionate team at RSCDS. Reporting directly to the Chair and the Management Board, the COO will work to ensure smooth and efficient running of the RSCDS operations. You will work to support the Management Board and Committees in the delivery of the RSCDS strategy. The COO will play a critical role in ensuring there is a positive organisational culture where all staff feel valued by volunteers and colleagues. Essentially, the COO will be in post to manage the staff function and to ensure the successful delivery of major events. You will have the confidence to take authority when making decisions on behalf of RSCDS and be the face and voice of the team. The COO will work to increase membership and engage the current members. This is a varied role, and no two days will be the same. There is a great opportunity here to design a fast and responding organisation.
We are looking for a strong leader who is able to engage with members and influence decision making. To be successful in this role, you may be someone with a background in office management, marketing, HR, operations or volunteer management. Although this would be beneficial, you do not need to have experience within the charity sector to be successful in this role. If you feel that you are able to manage people and volunteers whilst being able to influence through the art of negotiation,

Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint a new Chair to the Board of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission (SLCC).
About Us
SLCC provide a single point of contact for all complaints against Scottish lawyers (solicitors, advocates, commercial attorneys and licensed conveyancers). They investigate and resolve complaints about services and refer conduct complaints to the relevant professional body for investigation.
As a small and focussed public body this is an ideal opportunity for someone stepping up to a chair role for the first time or for an experienced chair wanting to feel they are making a direct and immediate contribution to an organisation. Knowledge of the legal sector is not essential, although we are looking for someone with good experience of governance and decision making.
What are we looking for in a new Chair?
The Chair plays a vital role in leading the oversight of the organisation and the Executive Team, engaging with stakeholders, ensuring a strategy is in place, risk and financial controls are appropriate. To enable the SLCC Board to work effectively and efficiently it is vital we have people with a variety of skills and experience from all walks of life.
Close working with the Chief Executive ensures an effective link between the Board and Executive Team. The Chair also sits on Determination Committees deciding on the outcome of complaints.
The SLCC need a Chairing Member with specific skills along with generic personal qualities. You may have gained your experience / knowledge by working, being active in your community, in a voluntary capacity or just through your own personal life experience – we have explained in the application pack exactly what we will be looking for and how they will be tested in the appointment process.
Training and support
Because of this varied role, the new Chair will be offered a full induction along with regular training. All members are supported by the management team, clerks and investigators, and the other staff of the SLCC and have taken on board members from a large variety of backgrounds.
Time commitment
In total, the time commitment for all work will be:
- around 30 days of fixed attendance (meeting or video calls, although with each meeting usually being a half day).
- around 8 days of work you can complete at home, at a time to suit yourself, and usually in one or two hour blocks.
Length of the Appointment
Appointment will be for a single term of five years. Therefore you can only apply to be a Board member again after a minimum gap of three years. No re-appointments are made to the SLCC Board, however, you can apply to be a Board member again after a minimum gap of three years.
If appointed you will be expected to take up your position on 10 July 2023.
Remuneration and Expenses
The Chair of the Board receives £323.29 per day. Expenses incurred as a result of carrying out the duties of the appointment, including reasonable travel and subsistence costs and dependant carer and childcare expenses, will be reimbursed.
The appointment is non-pensionable.

We are excited to be recruiting for a Head of Policy and Workforce. The next few years are likely to be seminal in the ongoing development of social work in Scotland, with significant change driven by reform through the National Care Service, the Promise, Mental Health Law Review, etc. With the Director, this post constitutes the senior management of the organisation, linking in directly with Social Work Scotland’s Board, local authority Chief Social Work Officers and key partners (such as the Office of the Chief Social Work Advisor) to identify, shape and participate in the national agenda for social work.
The Head of Policy and Workforce has a broad remit, providing operational social work insight and expertise across many issues, including workforce planning, leadership, learning and development, management and wellbeing. The role has responsibility for overseeing one or more national projects currently hosted by Social Work Scotland, and line managing other members of the team. The role works closely with the Director to inform the future of the organisation, and engage in a range of key national meetings, to ensure the social work profession is properly represented, in line with the membership’s positions.
If successful in securing the post, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with the leadership of the social work profession in Scotland, in operations, regulation, advocacy, policy, education and academia. You will lead a team of Policy and Practice Leads and Advisors to ensure the wider connecting themes that exist across the profession are reflected in the work that we do at the national level. Through these relationships you, and the team you will lead, will have a key role in steering the profession through its continuous process of change and development, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation. You will be a visible representative of the profession at the national level, and you will help others to articulate Social Work Scotland’s positions.

Trustees of the newly formed Montessori Scotland Foundation – affiliated to Edinburgh Montessori Arts School - are looking for additional volunteer trustees to help take this exciting project further.
It is not change itself that poses challenge, but how we cope with change. Using Maria Montessori’s insights, which are practised across the globe, we believe we can help communities of all kinds - children, young people, neurodiverse people, older people and diverse communities - to learn, develop and grow stronger. The aim is to benefit communities in Scotland and our living environment.
- Experience: we are particularly interested in Trustees with knowledge or experience of business / legal / marketing & PR / finance / voluntary sector / community initiatives including the natural world & caring fields / fundraising or grant seeking. Business Development Manager

The Tron was established as a charity in 1982, by the Glasgow Theatre Company, to develop Scottish theatre and theatre makers. We continue to fulfil this purpose through the Tron Theatre Company, our Tron Creative programme of support for emerging creatives, our Tron Participation team’s educational opportunities for people of all ages, and our visiting productions. Around 50,000 tickets are booked each year, and The Stage recently wrote that “The Tron is staking a claim as the home of popular theatre in Scotland”.
The role of the Business Development Manager is to maximise the Tron’s income through fundraising including sponsorship, trust and foundations and individual donations. The individual should be creative in their approach, seeking opportunities for the commercial exploitation of the building and identification of potential income streams which exist or could be developed. This role is also responsible for coordinating our successful community programme Pay it Forward, which donates panto tickets to children and families experiencing disadvantage and grows each year. The Business Development Manager will work across teams - Box Office, Production, Press & Marketing, Tron Participation and Tron Creative - in co-ordinating activity within the building, and will work closely with the Executive Director and the Tron’s Board of Directors.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Tron, a Glasgow arts institution which is recognised for developing new talent and launching theatre careers as well as its work with young people and in the community. This is a varied and collaborative role which requires a creative and dynamic fundraiser with strong communication skills.
