Role
Time Commitment: Attending 4 x Board Meetings per year. Attending 1 x General Meeting per year.
Meetings are held in person on a Thursday from 1:30pm – 3:00pm at Craighalbert Centre, 1 Craighalbert Way, Cumbernauld, G68 0LS, with remote attendance available where required. Approximately 4 hours per month Trustee business in support of the Centre
Terms of Office:Trustees are appointed for a 3-year term of office, with renewal for one further 3-year term to a maximum of 6-years. (Currently under review)
Salary:Unpaid (voluntary role)
Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses can be reimbursed.
Start Date: The appointee is expected to take up the post as soon as possible.
Who are we?
The SCCMI is one of only seven Scottish Government funded Grant Aided Special Schools. The Centre includes an independent school for children and young people with additional support needs, nursery services and inreach/ outreach learning and therapeutic services that support families and practitioners throughout Scotland. The children and young people attending the school and nursery experience complex health and learning needs. Families supported through inreach/ outreach services are affected by a broad range of disability impacting on motor function and learning. Our aim is simple; to support children, young people, and their families to attain and maintain the highest level of holistic well-being possible. Our ethos is to get it right for every child helping children and young people gain the knowledge, skills and attributes needed for life in the 21st century.
Trustee: Role Overview
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that the SCCMI achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that the SCCMI has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable the SCCMI to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission to enable all children/young people with motor learning difficulties throughout Scotland to develop their cognitive, psychomotor abilities, and life skills to improve the quality of their lives and achieve their maximum level of independence.
Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Community House Ltd is a well-established charity in Alloa, Clackmannanshire with its roots in the local community for over 20 years. Supporting some the most vulnerable families, it employs two part-time Practitioners, 2 part time practitioners Assistant, a part-time Senior Practitioner and a full-time Chief Officer, a cleaner and volunteers
Currently our service delivery consists of groupwork, and we offer a variety to woman and children within our demographic area. Every day we offer an after-school group where children attend from local primary schools via referrals and engage in a fun activity and receive a healthy nutritious dinner. We offer baby massage, Thrive, own my Life and will be running PPP groups for parents. We are expanding our service delivery and hope to be engaging in outreach working supporting families and women who have been the victims of Domestic Abuse. We have an adult helping hands groups which supports adults with additional needs and their carers, offering some respite, fun activity, and lunch. We have a dining area, crafting area, movie room and sensory area along with a large outside space for playing that we are currently looking at developing.
Community House Ltd is seeking committed volunteer Trustees and specifically a Treasurer to join the Board to support the charity in fulfilling its objectives.
Trustees must understand that they are accountable to the Community House Ltd mission as contained in the charity’s constitution ensuring the effective governance of the charity and in collaboration with the Chief Officer.
Specifically, the Board of Trustees are looking for individuals with professional experience in any of the following fields: finance, business, or legal although any other professional vocations will also be considered. Currently the Board of Trustees meets monthly, normally for no more than two hours and when necessary, meetings can be facilitated via Zoom so internet access is vital. All documents are stored on a one drive so access to online facilities is crucial to delivering a supporting role as a trustee. There is also an AGM once a year around September.
Principle Responsibilities
In conjunction with the other Board of Trustee members, the Trustees will: -
- Ensure appropriate governance arrangements are in place and are working effectively for the organisation.
- Ensure Community House Ltd compliance with OSCR requirements.
- Ensure stewardship of Community House Ltd financial position.
- Ensure the Board of Trustees' knowledge base of issues relevant to the charity is kept up to date.
- Ensure the Board of Trustees is regularly refreshed by encouraging the recruitment of new volunteers.
- Work within Community House Ltd agreed policies and standards.
- Address any conflicts which may arise within the charity in a fair and timeous manner.
The Treasurer role is an Office-Bearers role for which there are extra responsibilities: -
- Supporting the Chief Officer of Community House Ltd in financial planning, preparing a budget and monitoring actual expenditure/income against the budget
- Preparing annual financial information for the Community House Ltd accountants
- Monthly Reconciliations
It is not a requirement that applicants are resident in Clackmannanshire, but it is hoped they have a genuine desire to help its communities and believe in the Community House Ltd mission.
Trustees are appointed for a period of one year, extendable annually at the AGM for a maximum of a further three years with board approval.
SKILL AND QUALITIES
Essential Qualities
- Trustees must be supportive of and comfortable with the Community House Ltd mission
- Trustees should demonstrate a strong commitment to the main aims and purposes of Community House Ltd
- Trustees should have good interpersonal skills and relationship and team building abilities
- A good knowledge of administrative procedures
- Ability to provide clear advice on procedural and relevant legislative matters.
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to work with a team
For the Treasurer role:-
- Ability to support the preparations of budgets
- Monitoring and reporting of expenditure/income against budget to the accountants
- Ability to prepare financial information for the annual accounts
- Be a second authority for approving banking payments
Desirable Qualities
- Experience of third sector is helpful but is not necessary for the person taking on this role.
- Previous experience of charity governance would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement for the post.
- A working knowledge and understanding of the Scottish Governance Code for the Third Sector, an understanding of good governance, OSCR, Companies House requirements, relevant legislation, and statutory requirements is desirable.
- An understanding of the challenges facing small charities in maximising income streams, maintaining sustainability, and developing new business.
- An understanding of the Community House Ltd constitution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of the local voluntary sector.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with CELCIS, the Centre for Excellence for Care and Protection, based at the University of Strathclyde.
We’re looking for an experienced, innovative, and values-driven policy lead. The post holder will work in partnership with children, young people and adults with lived experience, the Scottish Government, local authorities, health boards, education, the third sector, and other key stakeholders to improve policy development and implementation, services, experiences and outcomes for children in need of care and protection and their families and carers.
The role has a particular focus on understanding and translating evidence, including lived experience, to inform the strengthening of legal frameworks and policies that guide public bodies and public service responsibilities to babies, infants, children and young people who are affected by poverty, family stresses and strains, and who live with kinship, foster, or residential carers.
This will include attention to the Scottish Government’s Single Implementation Plan which has a focus on incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child; the findings and recommendations of The Promise of the Independent Care Review in Scotland; the development of early family support; and implementation of the new National Child Protection Guidance.
This role is ideal for candidates with a keen interest in how Scotland’s law and policy interacts with developments in the UK, Europe and international bodies, such as the United Nations. It requires a strategic, analytical and a compassionate individual, who has the strong interpersonal and writing skills required to lead, support and encourage collaboration on activities that will achieve positive change with and for children, families, carers and workforces.
The role requires the ability to travel throughout Scotland and the post holder may work flexibly with the requirement to travel to CELCIS’s office in Glasgow for regular meetings.

S.M.I.L.E Counselling is a leading children and young person’s counselling Charity currently based in Livingston. We are now looking for a Treasurer to join our team. This is a voluntary position.
As a Treasurer at S.M.I.L.E. Counselling, your responsibilities will be:
• Fulfilling the duties of a trustee of a Scottish charitable company
• Keeping the accounts; completing and recording financial transactions
• Financial Reporting: keeping the Board and the membership informed of the financial position of the Charity
As such the treasurer should have an understanding of financial matters and be committed to the aims and objectives of the Charity.
Time commitment -: Approximately 3-6 hours per month including attending monthly Board meeting.
