Organisation profile:

Dean and Cauvin Young People’s Trust is one of Edinburgh’s oldest and established charities, providing residential group living and community, family and group work support to children, young people and families. We are committed to further developing the Trust as ‘a place of hope’ for care-experienced children, young people and families rooted in our values of Care, Perseverance, Acceptance and Hope. By building strong and caring relationships we #KeepThePromise by providing a scaffolding of love and support around children, young people and families as they take their first steps towards a confident, positive future.

Role:

This is an opportunity to come and join us as Team Leader of our house for young people aged 13-21. Currently based in Leith, this a small residential house supporting five young people at any one time and provides a safe and nurturing home to help support them grow and develop as individuals to help them on their journey towards life in the community.

Our team work closely with the young people we live alongside to provide the daily care and support they need and the advice and guidance to manage their health and wellbeing, independent learning and living skills, education and training needs. Our house staff also work closely with our community-based team to provide additional 1:1 and group supports to young people and to further develop their social and community connections. We work together with families, social work, health services and other colleagues to keep the strengths, aspirations and voice of the young person at the heart of all we do while ensuring their safety and welfare is always maintained.

The house Team Leader role is pivotal to this. Tasked with the day-to-day operations of the house, you are expected to lead, support and supervise a staff team to create a culture of nurture and care for young people while also ensuring the house is maintained and resourced to meet the needs of young people and staff.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to be part of our team as we adapt our services to #KeepThePromise - including moving to our new state-of-the-art house in Granton in Autumn 2023.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Able to lead, support and supervise others.
  • Values-led and rights focused.
  • Able to have honest and courageous conversations
  • An experienced individual who is skilled in coordinating a range of 1:1 and group-based practice approaches suitable for group living.
  • Passionate about working alongside children, young people and families
  • Able to build strong and effective relationships with young people, their family and professional and social support networks.
  • Able to lead, develop and model practice that is rooted in an understanding of child and young people’s developmental needs, trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
  • Can coordinate and monitor the referral, assessment, and care-planning processes for young people to focus on positive outcomes.

If you are someone who can make a difference for children, young people and families and have relevant experience with social work, youth/community/family work or other relevant experiences then we want to hear from you.

The Team Leader role involves a shift pattern over a four-week rota and supporting our on-call rota and therefore requires weekend working, and sleep-ins.

We are committed to the development of all our staff and the successful applicants will have access to training and development opportunities as well as other employee benefits.
