Glasgow City Heritage Trust is an independent charity, supported by Historic Environment Scotland and Glasgow City
Council. Established in 2007, Glasgow City Heritage Trust awards circa £1m in funding each year to help people
and organisations in Glasgow conserve, enhance and promote the city’s historic buildings and places. Glasgow
City Heritage Trust, aim through their conservation grants programmes for people to enjoy, understand and care
for Glasgow’s unique historic built environment and be able to access funding and expertise which will ensure
the sustainability of the city’s heritage for current and future generations.
The role
Glasgow City Heritage Trust, are on the search for a Director, who will be responsible for the day-to-day operational
management of the Trust. The role, which reports directly to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, will manage a
dynamic team of 9 staff. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a small, passionate and collaborative team at
the heart of Glasgow’s built heritage.
The successful candidate will hold the most senior-role within the Trust, and as a result will work on their own
initiative in the day-to-day operational management of the Trust. They will be an ambassador for the Trust’s
values and mission statement – a face and voice for the organisation. At the beginning of a new strategic 5
year-plan, there is great scope for revaluation and making organisational change.
Job responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership and strategic direction for the team
- Being principal contact for Historic Environment Scotland and Glasgow City Council and applying for funding from
external sources
- Producing decision making reports for the Board of Directors regarding all aspects of the operation of the Trust
including annual performance reports for the principal funding bodies
- Implementing enterprise and charitable business growth opportunities and developing compliant strategies to
increase income generation in line with the Trust’s Business Plan and Fundraising Strategy
- Liasing with the Business Development Committee to help develop positive working relationships and taking a lead
role with potential funders and partners
- Responsibility for the efficient deployment of staff and resources
- To review the organisational structure of the Trust on an ongoing basis to ensure that it is fit for purpose
- In conjunction with the Board of Trustees, to manage and regularly review the business and action plan for the
Trust
- Being the Company Secretary and responsible for all duties associated with the position including in relation to
the Scottish Office of Charity Regulators, Companies House, the Annual Trustees’ Report
The ideal candidate will:
- Have successful senior management experience
- Be skilled at making operational and strategic decisions
- Possess strong financial acumen and be IT proficient
- Display strong governance experience and evidence of accountability
- Be skilled and experienced at managing change and people
- Be experienced in grant management and handling budgets successfully
- Possess strong communication skills
- Be negotiable/persuasive
