Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) provides a range of services from a trauma informed position, for the communities in which we serve. These services include

These are to name a few and we are constantly striving to ensure we provide the support our communities want need and expect from us.
Our training and education department now deliver an Integrative Diploma In Counselling and Psychotherapy and our training delivery ranges from Cosca Skills modules 1-4, Counselling Supervision, Group work, Further Steps to ABI training for Trainers and Trauma Informed Practice to name a few.
We are looking to expand membership of our Board of Directors, to develop the strategic direction, support the aims and objectives and ensure good governance. If you can devote the time and are motivated to assisting us we would welcome your application.
We would be particularly interested in hearing from enthusiastic individuals who have experience in strategy and governance, with skills, experience and knowledge in any of the following areas:
- Human Resources
- Finance/accounting
- Legal
- Charity Governance
- Academia
Board membership is voluntary and unpaid, although travel expenditure may be reimbursed. Learning and development opportunities exist for all Board members, including induction training.

With alcohol deaths rising and access to treatment at a ten-year low, Alcohol Focus Scotland’s role in advocating and supporting change has never been more important. Our Board has a vital role in ensuring the organisation is well-governed and able to deliver on our strategic plan.
Who we are
Alcohol Focus Scotland (AFS) is Scotland’s national alcohol charity, committed to preventing and reducing harm to individuals, families, communities and Scotland as a whole.
Who we are looking for
We wish to recruit up to five new Directors to join our Board. In particular, we are looking for individuals who have skills, expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas of policy, practice and governance:
Policy and practice:
- public health, Alcohol and Drugs Partnerships or alcohol service provision research and or policy development in a relevant field (e.g. alcohol or commercial determinants of health, alcohol marketing)
- public affairs or campaigns
- the impact of alcohol on children, young people and families
- business development and delivery of training to external stakeholders
Governance:
- finance and fundraising
- charity and organisational governance (incl. human resources, equality and diversity, health and safety, data protection)
- legal knowledge relevant to AFS’s objectives (e.g. licensing law)

Fife Alcohol Support Service (FASS) is Fife’s main third sector alcohol and substance misuse charity. FASS has been working on the frontline, supporting people through their issues with misuse and on to better lives for over 40 years now. Our many services range from therapeutic counselling to practical support, and we help individuals, their families and communities Fife-wide.
As our chosen candidate, you will extend this ethos of enablement throughout our dedicated teams. The organisation has evolved rapidly in recent years and we are now looking to consolidate and expand strengths across our range of services. On appointment, you will have the unique opportunity of taking FASS to its next stage of development.

You will have excellent planning, analytical and negotiation skills and will steer the dedicated staff teams by example, creating an enhanced culture of collaboration and support. As an experienced and effective leader, you will have sound knowledge of financial management, HR, IT and communications management and systems.

Lead Course Tutor
- Part time
- £37,333 – £41,951 pro-rata
- Based within the GCA office in North Claremont Street, Glasgow with hybrid working (Hybrid)

GCA deliver services over 6 days per week and throughout Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire
Role:
The Diploma in Integrative Counselling is 2-year course, credit rated at SCQF level 10 by the University of the West of Scotland, and validation from COSCA. GCA is one of the founding COSCA members and adheres to the COSCA ethical framework for good practice in counselling, psychotherapy and counselling skills. The course requires lead tutors who are accredited by COSCA to Diploma level or committed to work towards accreditation. Tutors should be experienced Counsellors who are accredited with an appropriate professional body, or working towards accreditation (e.g., COSCA/BACP/UKCP).
The Lead Course Tutor will have responsibility for two Diploma Courses, leading on one weekly class and one weekend class.
The Lead Course Tutor will be expected to contribute to a GCA CPD calendar, writing and delivering on content agreed with the Course Director.
The Lead Course Tutor will support the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of the Diploma in Integrative Counselling.

Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) is recruiting for a number of trustees who understand the role and importance of governance in the third sector. We are looking for people who act with integrity, compassion, honesty, and who are passionate about our work and the role of the third sector.
Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) is a Glasgow wide community charity established in 1998 working to ‘bridge the gap’ in communities, removing barriers to participate in activities whilst working towards the reduction of social and economic inequality and stigma.
Ideally you will have experience of working at a senior management level and will have a deep understanding of the nature of community development and the stigma that is attached to poverty.

Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) is a Glasgow wide community charity established in 1998 working to ‘bridge the gap’ in communities, removing barriers to participate in activities whilst working towards the reduction of social and economic inequality and stigma.
Our vision is ‘Where people grow, thrive, fully participate in life and are free from social and economic inequality’.
We aim to reduce loneliness, develop community peer support, cohesion and resilience whilst reducing poverty and stigma. We do this by delivering a varied programme of activities and events in collaboration with key stakeholders.
We are a registered charity and Company Limited by Guarantee.
Commitment
The board meets quarterly, either face-to-face, via video chat, or as a hybrid of the two.
The duration of Board meetings is usually no longer than 1.5 hours.
All relevant papers are forwarded on a reasonable timescale, either via email or posted in hard copy.
Being a trustee is a voluntary role but Bridging the Gap (Glasgow) will cover relevant out-of-pocket travel and other expenses that would allow you to attend meetings.
Aside from the board meeting, additional time consideration should be given to allow for time to read through relevant papers, follow up on any action points, and may involve attending occasional additional meetings, events, or strategy days.
