In January 2024, the Scottish Government accepted the recommendations of the Empire, Slavery & Scotland’s Museums (ESSM) Steering Group, set up to advise on how Scotland’s museums and galleries can better reflect the country’s role in empire, colonialism, and historic slavery. Museums need help to develop skills and confidence in this work. MGS is now looking to appoint an Events Assistant who will support the delivery of training and networking opportunities to assist with implementation of the recommendations. The role will also assist museums to develop resources to embed race equality and anti racism in the curriculum.

You will work collaboratively with the ESSM Manager and support effective relationships with partner organisations, training providers and programme participants. You will bring excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills, a strong customer focus and a can-do approach, with an awareness of anti-oppression.

MGS is looking for an ESSM Manager to oversee the delivery of actions identified for MGS in supporting museums to implement the recommendations. They will work with colleagues and Scottish museums to centre anti racism and anti-colonial principles in their work. The post holder will be expected to measure and report on progress of the recommendations.

Who we are – The Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust is a registered charity that promotes and supports school and youth pipe bands throughout Scotland. We have extensive relationships with autonomous school groups, local authorities and third-party organisations who share our interests in this field.

What we are looking for – an entrepreneurial and driven person holding extensive experience of fundraising and with a genuine interest in making it easier for local volunteer groups to raise funds for their pipe-bands. Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is a Christian mission organisation using light aircraft to deliver help, hope and healing in over 25 countries. For more than 75 years, MAF aircraft have been overcoming inaccessible terrain transporting mission and development agency staff, delivering urgent aid and medical supplies to transform the lives of remote and isolated communities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic communicator with experience of inspiring, leading and managing volunteers. You will help drive forward MAF’s reach, by cultivating strong relationships with churches and other community groups throughout Scotland to raise awareness of the work of MAF. The primary focus will be to expand MAF’s presence in Scotland, engage new audiences by fostering meaningful connections and partnerships with church leaders and delivering presentations in churches and other groups. Additionally, you will spearhead the MAF in the Community (Scotland) Volunteer Programme, aligning it with MAF UK’s strategic objectives and church engagement strategies to bolster prayer support, donated income, and recruitment to overseas roles, by growing, training and inspiring our volunteer base, to facilitate more opportunities to speak in churches and other community groups.

Proven experience in fundraising and managing volunteers is essential as is the ability to envision and inspire others thereby building trusting relationships. Organisational skills (including event management), and training others in biblical engagement is foundational.

The job will be based from our Scottish Office; Challenge House, 29 Canal Street, Glasgow, G4 0AD. The position is part time (minimum 22.5 hours per week). However, full time (36 hours per week) would be considered. Hours should be agreed with line manager according to the flexible working policy. The working hours for this role will vary as there will be evening/weekend work.

Benefits/Entitlement

• Annual leave entitlement of 22 days (158.5 hours) per year plus 9 days (66 hours) paid public holidays per year, pro rata.
• Non-contributory pension scheme (10%) salary.
