The University of Stirling Students’ Union is a registered charity in Scotland (SC023788). We are an independent legal entity to The University of Stirling, but we work in very close partnership to ensure that the student experience at our university is the best it can be.
The Students' Union is entering a period of significant change as we look to build strong foundations and look to do things differently. A new strategic plan will be launched later in 2023 which will help shape our influence on campus and how we better support students.
To support us in this we are recruiting for an External Trustee to join our Board.
As a Trustee we want you to bring your passion, energy and ideas to making us a better students' union. Primarily this will be by engaging in the strategic oversight of our activities and organisational performance, challenging us to innovate and bringing your expertise suggesting how we can change.
You will join a team of others, each with a unique outlook on the world. Our aim is to have a diversity of thought, experience and background across all Trustees as we firmly believe that diverse boards make better decisions
At the moment, our Trustee Board is made up of:
- Four elected Sabbatical Officers (full-time paid representatives)
- Three appointed current Student Trustees (volunteers)
- Four External Trustees (volunteers)
The role of a Trustee is voluntary with all reasonable expenses reimbursed. A typical year includes attending four in-person Trustee Board meetings (either full morning or afternoon) as well as supporting one of our sub-committees up to four times per year.

As our CEO is moving on to pastures new, we are now looking to recruit a new Chief Executive Officer who will lead a motivated and dynamic professional staff of 14 and develop and support our three sabbaticals who, each year, are elected by the student community at Edinburgh Napier. The post-holder will have the opportunity to lead on the development and delivery of a new strategic plan as our Strategy 2021 – 2024 comes to an end.
About the Role:
Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer is accountable for the leadership, management, and sustainability of the Students’ Association, alongside providing support to the Elected Officers enabling them to fulfil their duties to the best of their potential.
In this role, you will be required to coach, develop, and provide leadership to the Students’ Association’s staff and to take responsibility for ENSA’s management and administration within the accountability frameworks established by the Board of Directors.
The role holder will not only be forward-looking, with a continuous focus on improvement but also have a deep understanding and appreciation for student issues and student experience.

About ENSA’s Board of Directors
The Board is collectively in charge of ENSA, for upholding its values and aligning it to the Association’s charitable aims. It has overall responsibility for ENSA’s governance: budget-setting and financial reporting, health and safety, human resources and legal compliance.
The Board is made up of 12 Directors: six External Lay Directors (including the Chair) appointed through a competitive process for their professional expertise; three Student Lay Directors who are registered students of Edinburgh Napier University and appointed through a competitive process; and three Sabbatical Officers who are elected by the student body.
In line with charity law, all ENSA’s Directors (elected and appointed) have equal status. Directors have a variety of experience and skills which offer different perspectives, and are all, jointly and severally, liable for the governance of the charity. Directors are expected to take their responsibilities seriously, attend meetings, and manage any conflicts of interests appropriately.

What Is the Role?
As a member of the Corporate Leadership Team (CLT) and reporting into the Director of Development and External Affairs, you will be leading a programme to deliver evidence and insight across Victim Support Scotland.
The primary purpose of this post is a leadership role responsible for the development and use of data, research, and insight at Victim Support Scotland.
You will lead in designing, commissioning, management, and dissemination of all the research as well as analysing findings to present them appropriately and effectively, including for our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Board.
You will champion the role of an effective data service in delivering our strategic outcomes. Working across the organisation, you will promote an evidence-based culture across Victim Support Scotland.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
You will possess excellent quantitative and/or qualitative research skills, with a keen eye for detail, meticulousness, and accuracy.
While demonstrating outstanding organisational and planning abilities, including proficiency in program, resource, and performance management. Exhibiting excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, along with a track record of effective external relationship management.
Proficient in presenting information visually to non-experts. Capable of designing, developing, and utilizing appropriate methods and tools to support high-quality research. Strong people management skills, including the ability to develop and motivate colleagues.
