We are looking for a hard working and enthusiastic support worker to join our expanding team. Care for Carers is a charity which provides a range of support, information, advice and breaks from caring to unpaid carers in Edinburgh. We are a small but passionate team and our Carer Support team are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated post-holder who will;

• Provide one to one and group support to unpaid carers

• Demonstrate an understanding and be responsive to the needs of carers

• Provide emotional and practical support to carers

• Promote and support Care for Carers services as well as supporting planning and reporting processes.

The Action Group seeks a highly organised, skilled and empathic person to join it's dynamic carer advice team within its accredited Advice Services.

The post-holder will support parent carers living or caring in Edinburgh to maximise incomes and plan and access support for their caring situation, their health and wellbeing.

This post-holder will focus on helping carers through the cost of living crisis. They will take the lead in understanding the resources available to carers, helping carers maximise their income through grants and trusts and assisting them with budgeting. They will also support the team to organise and facilitate monthly carers groups.

Supports offered to carers include one-to-one advice, group support and events.

Applicants will be warm and approachable, have excellent research skills, communication skills (both verbal and written) and an eye for detail. They must:

• Demonstrate a strong ability to provide casework and person-centred support work, to help carers improve their situations.
• Be digitally confident.
• Show a good understanding of equality and diversity issues and a commitment to support people from marginalised groups.
• Show a good understanding of the impact of caring on peoples’ lives and the barriers carers can face.

Knowledge of health and social care systems or a good understanding of welfare benefits are highly desirable.

The Service

Our Edinburgh Young Persons’ Service provides visiting housing support and supported accommodation to people between 16 and 25 years old who live in Edinburgh. We support young people, who have been in care, experienced homelessness, trauma or any disadvantage to overcome the challenges they may face whilst helping them to achieve their own individual goals and shape their lives for a more positive future. This can involve finding a suitable home, learning the skills to manage it as well as possible, working through life challenges, trying new things, and learning to see the best in themselves and fulfil their unique potential. We also have supported flats which vary in the level of support offered to suit the needs of the people who live there.

The Job

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and motivated Support Worker to join our team and improve the lives of people supported by our Edinburgh Young Persons’ Service.

In this role, you will be supported to work using a person centred and trauma informed approach and develop effective relationships with young people affected by a range of problems, supporting them to cope in difficult times and working towards a good life. You will provide emotional, practical and social support to enable people to live as independently as possible and make informed choices in all aspects of their lives.

In this role you will be responsible to manage your caseload independently and work flexibly around people's individual needs.
