Alongside our support services, we have a social enterprise focusing on the sustainable reuse of furniture, which provides independent income as well as volunteering and training opportunities for those who use our services.
We are currently recruiting a Senior Practitioner for our Young Persons Accommodation Services, Stopover, where we provide 24 hour support for 18 young people in a recently renovated building in the heart of Edinburgh.
The Role:
The role of Senior Practitioner is vital to help us achieve our aim of ensuring everyone has a home, a place in their community and a network of positive relationships that support them to build the life they want.
Senior Practitioners support a team of Practitioners in developing relationships, often with people who have experienced a great deal of adversity and trauma and for whom having trust in others can be difficult. Senior Practitioners use their skills in coaching and motivating to help Practitioners recognise their own strengths and work with them to build their confidence, resilience and motivation to undertake their role to the highest quality.
Alongside supporting staff, Senior Practitioners are part of the team and work directly with people using services supporting them in the way they wish to build the life they want.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To be a role model for the team in the application of Four Square values;
- Ensures Practitioners adhere to the SSSC Codes of Practice;
- Delivers the services in line with the Care Inspectorates Health and Social Care Standards;
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with people who use our services, colleagues and partners;
- Provides regular support, supervision and appraisal to the team;
- Supports social work students on placement acting as the Link Worker;
- Has a good understanding of supporting young people impacted by homelessness, trauma and adversity and ensures that the service and individual support is delivered to help young people recover from their experiences;
- Values and prioritises participation of the young people in the development of the service and wider work of the charity;
- Ensures the team stays up to date with current research and policy developments and works with the Head of Services to integrate these into practices;
- Can establish clear professional boundaries with the people we support and supports the team to demonstrate the same professionalism;
- Has a commitment to strengths based practice, delivering the service in a trauma-informed and person centred way;
- Has a commitment to their learning and development and putting this into practice and encourages the team to do the same;
- Is a reflective practitioner and an active participant in regular reflective practice group supervision;
- Has a commitment to working in partnership with other organisations and professionals to support young people and;
- Is engaged in the wider work of the charity enabling staff to participate in the delivery of the strategic plan.

About the team
Sitting under the Communications and Engagement team at Shelter Scotland, our tight-knit team comprises of a Supporter Mobilisation Manager, a Senior Marketing and Brand Executive, a Marketing Executive as well as a Supporter Engagement Executive (this role). As a team, we work to deliver on Shelter Scotland’s ambitious strategy by leading our activities that help driver engagement both on a local and national scale.
Our team also works closely with our other colleagues in Communications and Engagement, whether that be Communications Executives and Content producers, or Web Developers and UX Designers, you’ll be working alongside our colleagues to help deliver our objectives in helping our fight to end the housing emergency.
About the role
Working as a Supporter Engagement Executive, you will use your expertise to coordinate and deliver projects that are driving engagement with our key audiences. You will ensure that we have a mass of people who can provide their voices in support of the work we do, as well as encouraging new and existing supporters to have a voice.
As an experienced Supporter Engagement Executive, you’ll be working with our Income Generation teams to support with fundraising and awareness projects to maximise our impact with Scottish audiences. Not only helping us to ensure that Shelter Scotland can deliver on its supporter strategy, you will use mass-mobilisation to achieve supporter growth which will help us to win our campaigns and achieve long-term change.
Your day to day role will involve working with the Supporter Mobilisation Manager to develop and test new supporter propositions and strategies, as well as producing powerful and engaging approaches and materials that align with our Shelter Scotland brand.
This role is vital in helping us to build strong supporter relationships and create long-term commitment to the work Shelter Scotland does and allow us to continue our fight.
About you
You’ll need to be confident on working on ambitious multi-channel awareness or fundraising campaigns that can drive supporter acquisition or retention, as well as being able to inspire and motivate our supporters to take action. As well as having excellent communication skills, you’ll be a data-driven individual who is able and confident to assess the impact of work while adopting a test and learn approach. What’s more, you’ll be knowledgeable on integrated channel planning as well as have a familiarity with paid media, including display, PPC, SEO and social media advertising. Ideally, you’ll also have experience of using CRM Systems, Google Analytics, and email marketing software as well as knowledge of digital fundraising platforms.

The role of the Practitioner in our women's services is vital to help us achieve our aim of ensuring everyone has a home, a place in their community and a network of positive relationships that support them in building the life they want.
Practitioners recognise people’s strengths and work alongside them to build their confidence, self-efficacy, resilience, and motivation and help them feel safe and to heal from the trauma they have experienced. Practitioners also support people in developing practical skills, maximising their income, and developing healthier coping skills, problem-solving skills, social skills, and employability skills that will assist them in creating the life they want.
This role will be within one of our women's accommodation services, supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based violence and will require shift work.

Senior Policy Lead (Challenging Public Debt Recovery)

- £41,035 – £44,024
- You can complete work from home or utilise a local office base but you may be required to travel to attend meetings. (Hybrid)

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week. Hours of work can be worked flexibly although there may be a requirement for some work in the evenings or at weekends. There is a 5% unsocial hours allowance included in the salary to accommodate this expectation.

We are a values driven organisation delivering over 40 services across Scotland supporting children, young people and families.
We have a strong record of using knowledge and evidence from our work to campaign for the rights of children, young people and families across Scotland.
With funding provided from The Robertson Trust, we are looking to conduct a specific 3 year programme to focus on public sector debt and the impacts on low-income families.
What we are looking for...
You will collaborate with key stakeholders to explore the views and systems related to the recovery of public sector debt. You will use your research to engage with government nationally and locally to highlight the lived experiences of affected families, to seek fairer policies and commitments that help tackle child poverty.
You will help Aberlour plan and coordinate further campaigning work around the approach to public sector debt recovery.
You will have knowledge of the current Scottish political systems at a local and national level, particularly relating to social justice, anti-poverty and debt recovery policy areas. You will also have knowledge of key policy areas that impact on children and young people, such as the UNCRC and The Promise. You will have experience of writing policy briefings or papers or addressing informed and influential audiences.
