Role

SOEC is a charity and social enterprise with 3 outdoor Centres in Scotland offering a broad range of programmes with educational, health and wellbeing and other outcomes.

Broomlee is our 130 bed residential outdoor centre in the Scottish Borders; half an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. We are seeking a new Manager to lead the team and contribute to the organisation’s future development. Your focus will be the education and care of our customers during their visit and to ensure high quality outdoor learning experiences for all visiting groups.

Duties will involve all aspects of the day to day running of the Centre. The Manager is responsible for general customer care and liaison, and for ensuring all staff contribute effectively to the Centre’s operation. This is not solely a supervisory position; Managers should be competent to lead the staff team in the work required to keep the Centre running smoothly.

Work is varied and you will need to be able to prioritise your own workload and that of the Centre team to get the best results. The Manager works closely with the Chief Executive and other Managers and is a key member of the Senior Management Team.

Your duties will include:

A high degree of customer care and health and safety responsibilities

Line management of all staff based at the Centre

Appointment and day to day management of all support staff including catering, domestic and maintenance staff

Facilities management including grounds, buildings and services

Development of the business and performance of the Centre

Promotion of SOEC as a quality provider of educational services, Curriculum for Excellence and other PSD outcomes.

Duties give some indication of the variety of skills required. Qualification at a degree or equivalent level in an educational, child welfare or environmental field plus proven management experience is essential as is a clean driving licence.

Salary will be from £25,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications. The package offers an unfurnished 3 bedroom house on site.
