Role

The Ettrick and Yarrow Community Development Company is looking to recruit an energetic, well-organised and self-motivated individual to help deliver a community smart energy demonstration project in the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys. Technical oversight and support will be provided by Community Energy Scotland and Scottish Power and Energy Networks.

Job Role:

The Ettrick and Yarrow Community Development Company have funding to run a demonstration project introducing the concept of smart energy to the local community, buying an electric people carrier, installing charging points, installing smart storage heaters in a community venue, completing feasibility studies on renewable energy options and setting up a demonstration ‘Active Network Management ‘ pilot to counter capacity issues in the local grid. Training and support will be provided but the successful applicant will be conversant with renewable energy technology and enthusiastic about community engagement and behavior change.

The applicant will have a good understanding of the issues affecting fragile rural areas and be IT literate. Some report writing will be required. The worker will also be expected to facilitate meetings of the local steering group. Technical advice and support will be provided by Community Energy Scotland and SPEN appointees.

A technical qualification in renewable energy or other relevant qualification as well as experience in project management and community-led development would be advantageous as would a knowledge and affinity for the locality. The ability to work on your own initiative is essential.
