Linstone 20/20 Youth Engager

Linstone is a registered social landlord based in Linwood, Renfrewshire. We are a charity that owns and manages approximately 1,600 properties, providing affordable rented and supported housing as well as providing factoring services to a further 2,000 owner occupiers.

We have a vacancy for a Youth Engager, working with the Project Co-ordinator to ensure the smooth delivery of the Linstone 20/20 project. The project and this role is part financed by the Scottish Government and European Social Fund through the Social Economy Growth Fund. The project has been shaped by the SIMD (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) data, highlighting the need for more community cohesion in some of the areas most severely impacted by poverty and inequality in Scotland. A pilot programme undertaken at Belmar Court in Linwood has proven to be very successful and this model will be extended and rolled out to also develop Community Hubs in Johnstone Castle, Sandyflats and Kintyre areas in Renfrewshire.

Implementation of the Linstone 20/20 project will;

  • Reduce social isolation
  • Increase access to jobs and benefits
  • Provide local access to services through a welcoming Hub that can be used by like-minded organisations
  • Increase engagement with local people who will shape service provision
  • Assist these targeted communities to become more resilient
  • Increase community capacity to develop Linstone’s Wider Community provision

Main duties will include:

  • Build relationships with younger residents in each of the four locations, to ensure a positive impact for young people through the Linstone 20/20 project
  • Support young people in each of the locations to identify, articulate and fulfil the aspirations they have for themselves and their community
  • Support community activity to enhance positive youth participation in existing activities and development of new activities to ensure future sustainability of the local community hubs
  • Identify and overcome barriers to involvement, particularly for disadvantaged or marginalised younger people
  • Build local partners capacity to deliver and collaborate on initiatives for the benefit of these communities
  • Play a key role in building confidence, maximising community capacity to improve local skills, supporting resilience and strengthening the youth voice in each of these community areas
  • Identify the needs and level of support to establish or assist self-help groups.
  • Provide appropriate support to community groups to access funding

The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant experience in community education, youth and community work, social work or equivalent
  • Appropriate experience of working directly with children, younger adults, disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, and ability to build positive relationships
  • Understanding of community based youth and children’s work
  • Understanding and awareness of child protection
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills both verbally and in writing, including an ability to support a diverse client group
  • Proven ability to plan and manage a varied and challenging workload with minimal supervision
  • Experience of developing and sustaining good working relationships with external agencies and partners
  • Proven track record of achieving individual objectives and contributing to overall team performance
  • Effective problem solving and decision making skills
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours, weekends and evenings as required
