Role

The Board of Trustees of Humanist Society Scotland is currently looking to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer.

The Society is already a successful organisation, so we are looking for an exceptional leader to take it to the next level so as to develop and maximise our impact, profile, visibility, membership and income.

Based in Central Edinburgh, Humanist Society Scotland is a national charity and exists to promote Humanism and its values within Scotland. It initiates, leads on and engages with major social, education and campaigning activities, as well as being the major provider of Humanist wedding, funeral and naming ceremonies, with a celebrant body of circa 130 across all of Scotland.

In the last four years, led by our departing Chief Executive Officer, the charity has developed and continually grown in strength. Having been an organisation run entirely by volunteers, it currently has a professional staff team of 6.5 FTE.

Reporting to the Board, the new CEO will be a key member of our leadership team, playing a crucial role in developing Humanist Society Scotland’s core activities. You will also be responsible for ensuring the effective running of the office on a daily basis, leading the staff to provide a comprehensive range of support, services and events for Humanist Society Scotland and our members. Further, the CEO regularly represents Humanist Society Scotland in media interviews in response to policy issues.

About You:

A dynamic senior leader, you will be an innovative and creative thinker, with drive and ambition to campaign and lobby for change. A confident public and media speaker, you will be able to inspire a wide range of different stakeholders.

You will also be an imaginative and collaborative manager, inspiring and motivating your team in a manner that is positive and supportive of our vision, mission and values. Working collaboratively with the staff team and Board of Trustees, you will have excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to build a strong network of relationships. You will have the ability both to provide direction and also to work as a committed team player delivering effective strategy and action plans.

Humanist Society Scotland is a values-based organisation and all candidates will be required to demonstrate their commitment to Humanist values.

Job share applications are also welcomed.
