We are launching a new three year Young Persons National Demonstration Project in East and West Dunbartonshire. We are seeking a Family Support Development Officer – Young People to work alongside young people to co-design, test out and share a new programme of support for 12-26 year olds affected by family alcohol and drug use. The post will work with the Senior Family Support Development Officer – Young People to deliver this Project.
We know that young people are often hidden within families affected by alcohol and drug use, particularly those aged 12 years and above. This includes young people affected by the substance use of siblings, parents, grandparents and other relatives and carers. There is a lack of appropriate support for 12-26 year olds, and we recognise that they are best placed to design and test out a new programme of support for this age group.
We are seeking applicants with an appropriate qualification in Youth Work, Community Work or equivalent professional qualification, with experience of working with a range of children and young people. You must have experience of planning and delivering structured programmes of support for young people, and of supporting young people to engage in planning, developing and evaluating projects. An understanding of child protection issues and safeguarding practice, and of emotional and developmental issues for children and young people is essential, along with the ability to build rapport, positively engage and support young people.
