Established over 75 years ago, Youth 1st is the leading support agency for youth organisations, youth groups, youth workers, volunteers and young people in Fife.
The core purpose of Youth 1st is to act as a hub of information and resources to support Fife’s youth groups and organisations and their youth workers who enable young people to realise their full potential. Each year a number of youth groups and organisations become members of Youth 1st. We currently have approximately 7000 young people throughout Fife attending over 180 different youth groups and organisations. Most of our member groups are organised and run by volunteers. Our highly experienced staff team offer support, advice, access to training and events to all our members across Fife. We are a valued Youth Work partner in both the Local and National Voluntary Youth Work Sectors and work closely with our partners in Fife Council, NHS Fife, Fife Voluntary Action and other agencies across Fife.
We are looking for a new Treasurer to join our lively and engaged Board of Trustees. You will have a passion for Youth Work and will want to make a difference to local communities in Fife. You will like working as part of a team and enjoy making things happen. You will be a clear thinker, an active listener, a good communicator and are not afraid to speak your mind. You are responsible and committed and have time to give. We will offer support and training where needed to help you quickly find your way around the role.
You will have professional financial experience, either from the voluntary, the commercial or the public sector; an ability to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences; the skills to communicate the underlying messages behind financial information, and a preparedness to make unpopular recommendations to the Board; and a willingness to familiarise yourself with the SORP & OSCR guidance on managing charity accounts.
You will work closely with the Management Team of Youth 1st, in particular the Operations Manager, offering guidance and support as required. You will be expected to attend relevant financial and office bearer meetings to support the Management Team.
We hold Board meetings 5 times a year in Kirkcaldy, usually on a Monday or Wednesday evening, and we organise an annual away day. Trustees often have actions to work on between meetings and may be required to attend working group meetings as set by the Board of Trustees. You will also be expected to attend the Annual General Meeting usually held in August and report on the Annual Accounts during that event.
Our Trustees are unpaid, but we can offer travel expenses. In return for your time and expertise, we offer you the experience of being part of an exciting and established organisation, and a chance to make a real difference to the lives of young people, youth workers and volunteers in the Fife Community.
For further information on the role or to apply contact the Judith Allison - Manager on firstname.lastname@example.org or call our office on 01592 645355.
