Cancer Research UK and the NHS Lothian Detect Cancer Early team are working in partnership to improve cancer prevention and early diagnosis of cancer across the Lothian area. We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to work with us to support GP Practices and primary care to make real improvements in cancer outcomes in this complex area. This Health Professional Engagement Programme Facilitator post will work within a local team to drive forward ambitious plans by:

  • Providing targeted support to GP Practices in the early detection and prevention of cancer – specifically in areas of deprivation and inequality
  • Delivering best practice learning events and validated training
  • Support Practices and health care professionals to increase their patient participation in national cancer screening programmes, in particular bowel and cervical screening
  • Working with public health services, ensure GP practice teams link patients into support to stop smoking; losing weight; reduce alcohol consumption etc .to reduce risk of developing cancer
  • Support quality improvements in the use of cancer pathways with secondary care services
  • Capturing evaluation data and feedback to measure the impact of the Partnership.

To join us in this unique Partnership, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of partnering with a range of external stakeholders to influence and develop sustainable change
  • Experience of working with GPs and primary care
  • Strong understanding of primary and secondary care and NHS environments
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work in the field as well as being part of a cohesive team

This HPE Facilitator role is advertised to cover maternity leave and will be for up to a 12-month period, looking to start in February 2019. The post will ideally be based in DCE Team offices, Astley Ainsley Hospital in Edinburgh but we can consider candidates who are home based in the Lothian area. As there will be travel around the Lothian area, a full driving licence is extremely beneficial.
