Iona is a small island off the west coast of Scotland with beautiful white beaches and centuries of history. There are approximately 150 people living on the island and it is the Island home of the Iona Community; an ecumenical Christian community committed to working for Justice and Peace. The Iona Community offers a programme in the Abbey through the season, is responsible for daily worship in the Abbey Church and runs a gift and book shop. 2019 on Iona will be unlike previous seasons due to the absence of residential programmes while a major refurbishment programme is carried out. In 2019 there will be a small resident staff team who will be responsible for maintaining our hospitality through the provision of worship, running our shop and welcoming visitors while preparing for the reopening to guests in 2020.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable Operations Manager to oversee the operational aspects of running the Iona Community’s activities and properties on Iona during the transition period leading to the re-opening of the refurbished Abbey living spaces. This is a wide ranging post but will include managing a small team of paid staff and volunteers and supporting the planning for the centre opening in 2020. Although the primary function is to manage ongoing operations and planning, it is expected that the post holder will have to help out practically on a regular basis, given that the 2019 operational team will be small.
The post holder will also be expected to participate fully in the common life, including attending and leading worship, and sharing in communal cleaning and cooking duties.
Allowance of £630 plus full board and lodging, Pension. Fuller details are available on the Vacancies page of the Iona Community Website.
