Do you want to help transform lives through reading and writing? Scottish Book Trust is looking for enthusiastic and committed Board Members.
Scottish Book Trust, Scotland’s national charity transforming lives through reading and writing, is looking for new volunteer Board Members.
Scottish Book Trust’s highly accessible, creative, and inspirational national programmes start from a child’s birth with Bookbug and offer a lifelong path to maintaining the joy and benefits of reading and writing for pleasure. We design and deliver programmes such as Bookbug, First Minister’s Reading Challenge, Book Week Scotland and New Writer Award Schemes, amongst many others. We have a reputation for being ambitious and innovative, as well as delivering complex national programmes that champion excellence and equality.
Experience and skills
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Trustees to help shape our strategic direction, oversee the delivery of our business plan priorities, and support our fundraising and advocacy work.
We are particularly seeking Board Members who have a knowledge of or background in local authority government, as a teaching, library or early years professional. You will be passionate about promoting literacy and personal fulfilment through reading and writing for pleasure.
Our Treasurer is also stepping down at the end of the year, so we are looking for a qualified finance professional to take her place on the Board and to chair the Finance Committee. A knowledge of charity accounting is particularly welcome.
Board Meetings are held quarterly, in the morning, at our offices in central Edinburgh. In addition, the Treasurer post chairs four Finance Committee meetings a year. Although these are unpaid positions, reasonable expenses incurred in attending meetings will be reimbursed.
