We are looking to recruit energetic Young People’s Workers, to be based in St Boswells with outreach work throughout the Borders area including Duns. Posts are offered on a temporary basis for a period of 12 months. We are currently looking to recruit to various posts ranging from 20-25 hours per week.

The ideal candidate will be.….

  • responsible, with a wacky sense of humour
  • flexible and adaptable to changing routines
  • responsive to needs of the young person
  • understanding of anxiety and mental health
  • an animal lover
  • experienced in personal care
  • interested in/willing to learn about comic-con, heavy metal, wrestling

You will work with a young person who is….

  • Competitive, caring/compassionate, sociable, easy-going and brutally honest at times.

And who enjoys activities such as….

  • Midnight cinema trips, pub lunches, cake at the garden centre, music concerts/festivals and gaming.

The work is primarily with one individual, but flexibility is required to work in our larger residential home. Various shifts are available, including days, waking nights and weekend work.

We have a strong reputation in supporting young people up to 18 with high levels of complex needs to have fun, experience new opportunities and socialise with other young people. This break away from family life allows parents and carers to spend time with siblings, time for themselves or a much needed rest from their 24 hour caring role. Therefore a commitment to providing this is essential.

Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role, where we aim to provide the highest level of physical, personal, and emotional care to support children in their daily living and within the local community.

Every day the joys and challenges are different and a balancing act between working directly with the young people and updating paperwork to ensure their safety, good practice and recording.

Ideally candidates will have social care experience, understanding of autism, complex needs and mental health and have the relevant qualifications or willing to work towards these.

Why should I apply for this post?

As an Aberlour employee, you will receive:

  • competitive hourly rates with an additional 9% for working unsociable hours,
  • excellent annual leave entitlement
  • access to our group pension scheme
  • access to the Aberlour Rewards retail discount scheme

We also have a requirement to increase our Relief Pool. We are looking for relief staff, ideally with Sunday to Wednesday availability. The work is offered on a casual, hourly paid basis to provide cover during staff absence and/or particularly busy periods. The rate of pay is £10.83 per hour.
