Finance Manager/Financial Consultant

The Breastfeeding Network requires a Finance Manager or Financial Consultant to provide financial management support for the charity. This will involve strategic finance support and also overseeing financial systems and processes working closely with a Finance Officer, Human Resources Advisor and other key operational staff.

Main Responsibilities of the Finance Manager or Financial Consultant

  • Prepare annual statutory accounts (including detailed working papers) and co-ordinate audit process from planning to finalisation including liaison with audit staff.
  • Prepare quarterly board reports
  • Attend (face to face, Saturday) quarterly board meetings & report on BfN financial position
  • Support CEO, Finance Officer, Project Managers (PMs) and other BfN staff with financial queries (incl. regular catch up calls with CEO)
  • Attend Scottish Steering Group call and prepare finance update (conference call approx. every 6 weeks)
  • Attend FAR committee call and update on financial position (evening conference call - quarterly)
  • Act as lead reviewer on finance related policies such as BfN expenses policy, BfN investment policy, BfN reserves policy and Finance Officer procedures
  • OSCR – complete OSCR annual return and upload accounts
  • Keep abreast of changes in financial reporting and laws applicable to the charity sector and share information as applicable
  • Support end of year monitoring reports for projects
  • Monitor monthly project finances against budget (review finance officer report) and feedback on queries
  • Monthly visit to central office
  • Prepare annual core budget (in liaison with CEO/central support) and collate all project budgets into a single organizational budget
  • Prepare project budgets as required or appraise budgets prepared by PMs staff
  • Support applications for funding with budgeting information*
  • Costing of new policies/initiatives to inform decision making
  • Oversight of staffing master list and consistency with budgets (in conjunction with Finance Officer and HR Advisor)

* support development of significant budgets for funding applications, tenders and bids. The expectation is that budgets will be developed collaboratively with PM’s, checked by Finance Officer but they are finally reviewed by the Finance Manager or Consultant and final sign off by CEO. A protocol to be developed.
