About FareShare

FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty by tackling food waste. We source food that is surplus to requirements – from food retailers and manufacturers – and engage many volunteers to help redistribute this to local charities and community groups that provide meals to vulnerable people (individuals who are homeless, unemployed, socially isolated, recovering from addictions). FareShare now operates 23 warehouse depots around the UK and supports over 10,000 charities and community groups – our Community Food Members.

There are four warehouse depots, which we call Regional Centres, in Scotland distributing over 2000 tonnes of food per annum and serving over 500 community organisations. This role is made available thanks to the core funding of the Scottish Government over the next year. There is a possibility the role will be continued after one year but this is subject to review at the end of the year.

Main purpose of this role

Your important role will be to engage with the food industry in Scotland, to develop and manage existing and new business relationships with companies to generate value for the partner and secure growing and sustainable volumes of surplus food for the FareShare Network in Scotland.

The role involves working closely with the four Scottish Regional Centre Development Managers and the FareShare UK Food Team to strengthen our capability to source and handle more food. The Regional Food Officer role will be responsible for developing our regional and local food sourcing. The post holder will manage existing food partners and spend time researching and contacting potential new local food suppliers in the region, making new contacts and following up leads. The role will work closely with the FareShare UK team ensuring consistency of approach and delivery of national initiatives where appropriate. There are a large number of food businesses in the Glasgow and central area and it is expected that much of the work will be based in this location. This role will increase our capacity to have a strong engagement with small to medium sized businesses SMEs, complementing the work of the FareShare UK Food Team on larger, national accounts.

The role includes an element of coordination of food supply and logistics to support placement of stock appropriately throughout the network in Scotland
