The main purpose of this role is to work as part of an effective team to provide a safe, secure and stimulating childcare service that promotes social and personal development for children, through the understanding of Play, and the delivery of quality indoor and outdoor play experiences.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • To assist in the smooth running of the childcare service
  • To assist in creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone
  • To escort children from school
  • Participate in the planning, evaluation and delivery of a weekly schedule of indoor and outdoor play activities through consultation with the children.
  • To deliver a variety of play, leisure and learning programmes and suitable activities for the children
  • To assist in the provision and preparation of snacks during term time and during holidays
  • To participate in the operation of an agreed system for recording child development
  • To attend and contribute to meetings
  • To participate in any training and qualification considered relevant to the position and for the benefit of the service
  • To assist in the development of a partnership between the Service, the families and their children, and all working partners.
  • To be aware of the aims and purposes of Bellshill & Mossend YMCA, Childcare Service and to assist in their delivery
  • You will be required to wear a supplied uniform and carry out any other duties within the scope of the post as prescribed by the Childcare Manager or any other person acting on his/her behalf.
  • To effectively implement best practice policy and procedures

Essential/Desirable Criteria

Essential criteria:

  • Qualified to SVQ Level 3 minimum
  • A full and competent understanding of Play and its function
  • Hold membership of PVG Scheme
  • Experience of group work with children
  • Experience of providing support and information relevant to children
  • Working knowledge of the Government’s ‘Getting it Right for Every Child’ agenda and its core principles

Desirable criteria:

  • Proven ability to effectively plan and deliver programmes and activities simultaneously.
  • Experience of effective partnership working
  • Understanding of an Informal Education Curriculum
