Role

Scottish Churches Housing Action brings together the main Scottish churches in their work on poor housing and homelessness. We are looking for a motivated individual with strong attention to detail and good communications skills, to look after our finances and help to maintain the smooth running of our small office in central Edinburgh.

A vacancy has arisen for the key post of Finance Manager due to the retirement at the end of September 2019 of our current jobholder. He/she will be responsible for recording and reporting financial activities, working alongside the Chief Executive and the Convener of the Finance & Resources Committee. The post is one of a staff team of four, with regular volunteers working alongside.

Specifically, the post-holder will record and communicate the financial activities of the organisation and its subsidiary, Whitebeam Homes, including preparing annual accounts for audit or examination; participating in financial planning and helping to prepare funding applications.

It is essential to have good communications skills and a commitment to our ecumenical approach to social action. It will be an advantage to have experience of work in the charitable sector, and to have an understanding of issues of poverty and exclusion in Scotland.

Other relevant skills:

Essential: Attention to detail; Managing financial systems; Knowledge of Excel and Word

Desirable: Completing funding applications; Knowledge of Sage 50; Accounting Qualification

Scottish Churches Housing Action is a small but highly active charity bringing together the main Christian denominations in Scotland under the slogan no room for homelessness! Its main purposes are: development of volunteer-based activity to help homeless people; encouraging use of redundant church property for affordable housing; and raising and maintaining awareness of Scotland’s homelessness problem.
