The Storehouse is a food based community hub owned by over 900 shareholding members and run by Penicuik Community Alliance. It has recently taken ownership of a large former Scotmid building where the current activity is a small grocery shop and a number of weekly independent stalls. Refurbishment work to open the rest of the ground floor is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. This will extend the shop, provide a multi-purpose community kitchen incorporating training facilities and a market and event space.
We are looking for a suitably experienced and enthusiastic individual to take an overview of the present community shop set up (currently operating on a wholly voluntary basis) and establish systems for its smooth daily running including designing a stock management system, reviewing food handling procedures, and introducing procedures for expanding and supporting our volunteer team. You will then oversee the expansion of the shop when building work is complete and be involved in planning the new retail and social activities. You will be enthusiastic about the Storehouse ethos of providing affordable good quality food produced as locally and ethically as possible. Applicants will have excellent communication skills, experience in retail management and a sound understanding of managing volunteers.
