Children 1st work to give every child in Scotland a safe and secure childhood. We achieve this by providing direct services to vulnerable children, young people and their families across Scotland.
The Maximise! service is funded by City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership, Children 1st and Community Health and Advice Initiative (CHAI). This is a public health initiative working in collaboration with the City of Edinburgh Council’s ‘1 in 5: Raising Awareness of Child Poverty in Edinburgh’ project and supported by schools across the city to promote families financial resilience, health and wellbeing and the attainment of children and young people.
The role will build on our successful pilot project which created an integrated community team of Family Support Workers, Advice Workers and Employability Workers providing holistic, community-based support to families and schools.
As part of our community teams, Family Support Workers will deliver a range of social, emotional and practical support to families at home, in school and in the community via focused individual and group work. Families are supported to ensure that children and young people are more engaged in education, to improve their emotional health and wellbeing and to build upon skills around parenting, attachment and resilience.
We know that money and debt issues can be a result of – or result in – a range of social and emotional factors which in turn can affect family life. As part of our team you will offer whole family support to those impacted by these issues which can include social, emotional and behavioural problems, school attendance, additional support needs, parental mental health, poor family relationships or social isolation.
We are looking for professionals with a social work, community work, family support, child/early years or other appropriate qualification. If you have experience of working with children and families and are passionate about tackling child poverty and maximising the income, wellbeing, attainment and potential of families then we want to hear from you.
