Role

For over 140 years Glasgow Care Foundation have been assisting families and individuals in Glasgow who cannot get help from any other agency, with basic household goods. We also support local community projects, holidays for families and distribute toys and food vouchers at Christmas.

We act as Trustee for some 13 smaller charities and our income comes from capital investments made in earlier years, bequests, legacies and donations. We have a small team of 3 staff and Volunteer trustees. We do not receive any funding from local or national government.

We use the funds we receive to help some of the most vulnerable people in Glasgow. We do this by helping them when life takes a turn for the worst and they need a helping hand. We support individuals and communities during their difficult times, always respecting their dignity and individual circumstances.

Our current Welfare Officer is due to retire after many years dedicated service to the Foundation and the people of Glasgow and we are looking for an outstanding individual to join us to carry on her excellent work. This full-time role requires someone who has compassion and understanding and who will approach our beneficiaries judging how best we can help and support.

This involves working with individuals and agencies and a broad range of stakeholders. The need for strong personal communication skills is key as is an awareness of confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with people who at times may be in crisis.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with Social Workers, Health Care professionals and have experience of home visits. The main duties involve making assessments, providing grant reports and arranging goods and services for beneficiaries. A working knowledge of the benefits system would be advantageous. The role will also require the administration of trusts and liaison with Trustees and will be responsible for overseeing the management of the Charity’s office and website. Fluent IT skills would be beneficia and knowledge of the charitable sector would be an advantage.

This role involves lone working and will operate city wide within Glasgow. Access to transport will be required.
