Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity.

SAMH has represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years.

Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

SAMH is seeking a brilliant Senior Communications Officer to join our Campaigns and Communications team.

The Campaigns and Communications team supports this work through creating and delivering clear, inspiring and sometimes challenging messages about support for people with mental health problems in Scotland. We do this across digital, internal and traditional platforms, which we also use to deliver information on ways we can all look after our mental health.

Reporting to the Head of Communications and Public Affairs, you will take a leading role in the development, testing and implementation of SAMH communications to raise public awareness of mental health, drive engagement and target relevant audiences. You’ll work closely with your colleagues in the team and across the charity, using a data-driven approach to ensure SAMH’s communications are appropriately shaped and targeted.

You will work with journalists, media outlets and influencers to communicate and build support for SAMH’s work. You’ll develop and create cross-channel content, help colleagues to communicate key messages consistently and support effective internal communications with our 500+ staff.

About you

You are an excellent writer, who can simplify complex issues and create clear, punchy messages. You have an impressive contact book and have relationships with Scotland’s key journalists, editors and influencers. Your digital skills are on point and you love learning from data: Google Analytics, AdWords and SEO principles are second nature to you. You’re creative, have a strong track record and are a great colleague who can react fast when situations change.
